My valued client are looking for an experienced and proactive Transport & Weighbridge Manager / Supervisor to take ownership of our transport operation, fleet compliance, vehicle maintenance, Weighbridge and driver management activities. This is a hands-on leadership role within a fast-paced operational environment where you will be responsible for ensuring our fleet operates safely, efficiently, and compliantly while supporting wider business objectives. This role would suit an experienced Transport Manager, Fleet Manager or Transport Supervisor or Transport Co-Ordinator who is looking to take full responsibility for a transport function and make a significant impact on business performance. Hours of work are 06.30am - 16.00pm Monday to Friday. Please note that 06.30 - 07.30 this role covers the weighbridge until the operator arrives for shift at 07.30am.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fleet Planning & Operational Efficiency
    • Manage daily and weekly transport planning to maximise fleet utilisation.
    • Optimise routes to improve productivity and reduce operating costs.
    • Monitor vehicle tracking, driver performance, fuel consumption and route efficiency.
    • Minimise vehicle downtime through effective management of breakdowns, repairs and maintenance.
    • Identify opportunities for backloads, alternative routing and improved fleet performance.
    • Ensure transport plans align with production schedules, stock availability and customer requirements.
  • Compliance & Fleet Management
    • Ensure full compliance with driver hours, tachograph regulations and operator licence requirements.
    • Manage fleet maintenance programmes, including inspections, servicing, PMIs and MOTs.
    • Maintain accurate transport and vehicle compliance records.
    • Lead transport compliance audits and maintain audit-ready documentation.
    • Manage telematics, vehicle tracking and performance monitoring systems.
    • Maintain and develop FORS accreditation standards.
  • Leadership & Driver Management
    • Lead, motivate and manage the driver team (4 drivers and a Weighbridge operator).
    • Conduct regular driver reviews and performance discussions.
    • Deliver Toolbox Talks and safety briefings.
    • Promote high standards of safety, compliance and professionalism.
    • Support disciplinary, performance management and HR processes where required.
  • Customer & Supplier Management
    • Build strong relationships with customers and subcontractors.
    • Coordinate delivery schedules and respond effectively to changing customer requirements.
    • Manage transport suppliers and maintenance providers to ensure service quality and cost control.
    • Ensure customer-specific documentation and quality requirements are completed accurately.
  • Operational Support
    • Support daily operational meetings and decision-making.
    • Support the Operations Manager as and when required, providing cover when needed.
    • Monitor stock levels, yard operations and site activities to support business performance.

What We're Looking For

Essential

  • Previous experience in a Transport Manager, Fleet Manager, Transport Co-ordinator or similar transport based role.
  • Strong knowledge of transport legislation, driver hours and tachograph regulations.
  • Experience managing vehicle maintenance and fleet compliance programmes.
  • Proven ability to manage drivers and transport operations effectively.
  • Strong planning, organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
  • Experience of Weighbridge operations and able to cover this when required.
  • Experience using transport management systems, telematics and vehicle tracking platforms.

Desirable

  • Transport Manager CPC qualification.
  • Experience managing FORS accreditation.
  • Knowledge of commercial vehicle maintenance and fleet cost management.
  • Experience within manufacturing, construction, waste, recycling, logistics or industrial operations.
