My client is looking for an experienced and proactive Engineering Manager to take responsibility for the engineering, maintenance and facilities function at our materials handling and recycling facility in Rotherham. This is a hands-on management role, ideal for someone who can combine strong engineering knowledge with excellent organisational and people-management skills. You will be responsible for ensuring the site’s equipment, mobile plant, facilities and infrastructure are maintained safely, reliably and efficiently, while developing a capable and motivated maintenance team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and manage planned and preventative maintenance schedules across the site.
  • Lead, manage and develop the maintenance team, ensuring high standards of workmanship, safety and performance.
  • Manage external contractors, ensuring work is properly planned, controlled and completed to the required standards.
  • Take responsibility for the site Permit to Work system and associated safe working practices.
  • Manage critical spares and engineering stock, ensuring essential components are available when required while maintaining sensible stock levels.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and inspection requirements, including LOLER, PUWER and CDM.
  • Oversee maintenance and minor civil works across the site.
  • Manage site facilities and associated maintenance requirements.
  • Oversee the maintenance, servicing and availability of mobile plant and equipment.
  • Identify opportunities to improve plant reliability, reduce downtime and increase operational efficiency.
  • Work closely with the Operations Manager and wider site team to prioritise engineering requirements and support production.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, monitor performance and provide regular engineering updates and reports to the Operations Manager.
  • Promote a strong culture of health, safety, housekeeping and continuous improvement.

About You

We are looking for an experienced engineering professional with a background in industrial maintenance, recycling, manufacturing, waste management or a similar operational environment. You will ideally have:

  • Proven experience managing an engineering or maintenance function.
  • Strong knowledge of planned and preventative maintenance.
  • Experience managing contractors and engineering projects.
  • A good understanding of LOLER, PUWER and CDM requirements.
  • Experience with Permit to Work systems and safe systems of work.
  • Experience managing maintenance stores and critical spares.
  • The ability to manage and develop a team effectively.
  • A practical, hands-on approach to problem solving.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • The confidence to work with both operational teams and external contractors.
  • A commitment to maintaining high standards of health, safety and compliance.
