What we are recruiting for: We are currently recruiting for a Health and Safety Manager, to join our Public Sector and Regions Construction business, as part of our DEOP team. DEOP (Defence Estate Optimisation Programme) is a government major programme of works to rationalise the Defence Estate across the UK. Bovis have been awarded five DEOP projects all based in the West Midlands region. The project sites are located in Bicester, Gloucester, Stafford, Leicestershire and Cirencester. All projects are currently in conversion stage. Early works and full construction works, on the first projects, will be starting on site in early 2026.
You will serve as an operational H&S manager across construction projects. Embedded in project teams, your role is to drive legal compliance, coach teams on risk management practices, and help embed a culture of incident and injury-free working. You will be responsible for delivering day-to-day operational safety leadership across project lifecycles.
Roles & responsibilities:
- Provide advice and coaching to operational teams on H&S obligations and best practices
- Conduct risk assessments and develop practical control strategies
- Lead site safety inspections, investigations, and audits
- Support development and application of project-specific safety plans
- Monitor trends and promote proactive improvement measures
- Engage with supply chain partners to ensure shared safety expectations
- Collaborate with stakeholders on digital systems, legislation, and continuous learning
Experience & background:
- NEBOSH Diploma and Certified Member of IOSH (or working toward Chartered status)
- Demonstrable experience managing safety across construction projects
- Strong interpersonal and coaching skills
- Ability to influence operational decision-making
- Skilled in interpreting data, reporting trends, and managing incident closures
- Understanding of ISO 45001 and compliance frameworks
- Qualification in auditing and incident investigation desirable
