We are an early-stage startup looking for a junior finance and operations professional who wants to grow into a core operator and long-term leader within the business. This role is designed for someone who is curious about how companies actually run, not just how they look on paper. You will work hands on across finance operations, UK compliance, payments, and process building, while learning how data, systems, and decision making connect to real business outcomes.

You will support and gradually take ownership of finance and operations, acting as the internal point of coordination with external accountants and payroll providers. Over time, this role has a clear path into senior finance and operations leadership. The role can be fully remote. You do not need to be based in the UK, but you must develop a strong working understanding of UK bookkeeping, VAT, payroll, and HMRC obligations.

What you will work on initially:

  • Finance and bookkeeping
  • Support day to day bookkeeping and financial record keeping
  • Assist with reconciliations and maintaining clean supporting documentation
  • Help prepare inputs for monthly and quarterly financial processes
  • Work closely with external accountants to understand filings and reporting
  • VAT and UK compliance
    • Support VAT tracking and preparation for submissions
    • Maintain organised, audit ready records for HMRC obligations
    • Learn how UK tax and compliance requirements work in practice
    • Assist with queries from accountants or regulators
  • Payroll, payments, and administration
    • Support payroll coordination with external providers
    • Track contractor invoices and payment schedules
    • Assist with outgoing payments and approval workflows
    • Maintain accurate records of expenses and recurring costs
  • Procurement and operational hygiene
    • Help manage suppliers, subscriptions, and contract records
    • Support procurement processes and payment terms
    • Assist with budgeting and cost tracking
    • Help document and improve finance and operations processes

    How the role will grow:

As you develop, you will progressively take ownership of:

    • Full finance operations and bookkeeping oversight
    • VAT submissions and compliance workflows
    • Cash flow visibility and cost control
    • Founder-level reporting and financial insight
    • Independent management of external partners

Alongside finance and ops, you will have exposure to:

    • Data operations and how clean financial data supports decisions
    • BI tools, dashboards, and internal reporting
    • Automation and systems that reduce manual work
    • How finance connects to growth, pricing, and strategy

Longer term, this role can evolve into a senior finance and operations position with real influence over how the company runs and scales.

    What we are looking for:

    • Early career experience in finance, operations, accounting, or business administration
    • Strong attention to detail and comfort working with numbers and systems via Excel (or Google Sheets)
    • Genuine interest in startups and how businesses actually operate
    • Curiosity about data, tooling, and systems that drive real outcomes
    • Eagerness to learn areas such as data ops, BI tools, and automation
    • Knowledge or willingness to learn UK bookkeeping, VAT, and HMRC compliance in depth
    • Highly organised, reliable, and comfortable taking responsibility
    • Clear communicator who can work with non-finance stakeholders

    Nice to have:

    • Exposure to bookkeeping or accounting tools such as Xero or QuickBooks
    • Experience working with accountants or payroll providers
    • Familiarity with UK finance concepts or a strong desire to learn quickly
    • Experience in a startup, agency, or small business environment

    What we offer:

    • Real ownership and responsibility from early on
    • A clear path to senior responsibility and leadership as the company grows
    • Direct access to founders and decision making
    • Flexible working location and hours
    • The opportunity to become a long term, trusted operator within the business
