The roleWe are looking for a bright, proactive and experienced People Advisor to join our European People team, based in London. Reporting to the People Director, London, the People Advisor will help deliver seamless People operations for the London office while also contributing to wider European People initiatives and projects.
This is a varied generalist role, suited to someone who enjoys combining high quality operational delivery with thoughtful employee support. You will work closely with colleagues across the People team, payroll, staffing, finance and the wider business, acting as a trusted first point of contact for employees and managers on a broad range of People matters.
The successful candidate will be highly organised, confident working with data and systems, and comfortable balancing process, judgement and discretion. They will bring strong knowledge of UK employment law, excellent communication skills and a genuine interest in improving the employee experience.
Key responsibilities- Provide clear, practical and timely guidance to employees and managers on People policies, processes and employment related queries.
- Act as an escalation point for more complex queries received through the shared People team inbox.
- Support employee relations matters on an ad hoc basis, including grievances, disciplinaries, performance concerns and absence related issues.
- Review and support flexible working, remote working and other individual employee requests, ensuring these are handled consistently and in line with policy.
- Manage leave processes, including compassionate leave, personal leave, carer's leave, sabbaticals and other unpaid leave requests.
- Support parental leave processes, including employee guidance, documentation, payroll notifications, pregnancy risk assessments and parental coaching enrolment.
- Maintain accurate employee data across HR systems, including Workday and SAP.
- Manage the people movements file process for payroll purposes, ensuring changes are captured accurately and on time.
- Work closely with the Payroll Manager and People Operations team to ensure payroll inputs are complete, accurate and delivered to agreed timelines.
- Ensure unpaid leave, sabbaticals and other payroll impacting changes are recorded and communicated appropriately.
- Support people reporting and analytics, including gender pay gap reporting and other regular or ad hoc data requests.
- Use Excel and HR systems confidently to manage employee data, track processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Prepare and issue People team communications, including new joiner updates, leaver announcements, policy updates and office communications using Staffbase templates.
- Support employee engagement initiatives, wellbeing communications and office updates, including newsletters and content for London office meetings.
- Prepare People related presentation materials, including updates on promotions, new joiners and other employee milestones.
- Contribute to ad hoc European People projects, including process improvements, policy updates, systems implementation and employee experience initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to simplify, improve or automate People processes while maintaining a high quality employee experience.
- Experience in a generalist HR / People Advisor role, ideally within a fast paced, professional environment.
- Strong working knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice.
- Good operational understanding of the full employee lifecycle, from onboarding to offboarding.
- Experience supporting employee relations matters and advising managers or employees on HR policies and processes.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage a varied workload, prioritise effectively and keep stakeholders informed.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt style and approach for different audiences.
- Strong attention to detail and discretion when handling confidential or sensitive information.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills, with advanced Excel capability and confidence working with employee data.
- Experience using HR systems, ideally including Workday, SAP or similar platforms.
- Fluent written and spoken English.
- Experience in professional services, consulting, financial services or another high performance corporate environment.
- CIPD qualification or working towards one.
- Experience supporting HR system implementation or process improvement projects.
- Experience working in a regional or multi country People team.
- Familiarity with payroll processes, immigration / visa administration, right to work checks or reward processes.
