Overview
Residential Children\’s Worker role within Derbyshire County Council’s Specialist Services. The post involves providing a person-centred service to children and young people, ensuring holistic care and safety needs are met, in collaboration with partner services.
The role supports children and their families to access additional services and embeds the therapeutic ethos of Derbyshire Residential Services within the Homes to address physical, emotional, and social development.
Responsibilities
- Provide a service to Children within Specialist Services in accordance with legislative and policy requirements.
- Work as part of a small staff team to support and provide a person-centred service to children and young people.
- Address the holistic care and safety needs of the children and support collaboration with partner services.
- Embed the therapeutic ethos of Derbyshire Residential Services within the Homes.
- Operate in a manner that supports the childrens acts, quality care standards and Children’s Homes (England) regulations 2015.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Must hold, be working towards, or be willing to undertake and complete within 2 years of starting work at the home, the Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare OR hold an equivalent qualification such as L3 Children and Young People’s Workforce (Social Care pathway), or NVQ L3 Caring for Children and Young People.
- Open to relationship-focused and psychologically informed working practices.
- Endorsements or experience relevant to working with children and young people in a residential setting.
Salary and Conditions
- Salary details: Grade 9 £16.77–£17.79 per hour, Monday to Sunday 7am–7pm. After 7pm until 7am £22.36–£23.72. Bank Holidays £33.54–£35.58.
- Sleep-in duty: basic duty payment rate of £32.86. Additional time worked while sleeping is paid at the appropriate rate for the time. Bank holidays spanning into/out of a bank holiday will be enhanced to double the basic duty payment rate.
- Shift pattern includes earlies, lates and sleep-ins to provide 24-hour care.

Additional Requirements
- Due to access to children and/or vulnerable adults, a Disclosure and Barring Service check is required. A criminal record will not necessarily prevent the application; each case is judged individually.
- The job may require unsocial hours including weekends and Bank Holidays. Payment arrangements will be detailed in the contract offer.
- Saturday and Sunday hours part of normal pattern are paid at plain time unless between 7pm–7am; enhanced rates apply for Bank Holiday working.
