South Kesteven District Council set up LeisureSK to achieve a number of strategic objectives:
- To identify and break down barriers to accessing our leisure facilities in South Kesteven.
- To connect communities, looking at outreach programmes outside of traditional leisure facilities.
- To reduce social isolation and promote independent living in South Kesteven.
- To improve the physical and emotional wellbeing of residents of South Kesteven through targeted health programmes.

As an Assistant Swimming Teacher, your role will be vital to the delivery of the Swim School and School Swimming programmes at the centres. The lesson programmes are important from both a community engagement perspective and also for the contribution to the financial viability of the centres enabling us to offer support to other programming activities.
It will be your responsibility to support the wider teaching team to plan and deliver fun, engaging and educational lessons following our scheme of work and guidance from relevant National Governing Bodies. This support will include assisting pupils from the water at lower stages.
The Assistant Swimming Teacher role is a developmental position and as part of this post holders will be supported to develop towards achieving their Swim England level 1 and level 2 Teaching Qualifications and the NRASTC rescue qualification. Further into their development, Assistant Teachers will be expected to deliver crash courses (with support) and progress on to cover existing classes.
You will also help with routine checks, housekeeping standards and customer safety, especially the class members in your charge during lessons.
As you go about your work, you will regularly interact with customers and will do so in a warm and welcoming way. You will often be the team member that customers build a relationship and trust with, and therefore you will have a great deal of responsibility for representing LeisureSK in a professional and efficient manner; remaining calm in difficult situations, being proactive in dealing with issues yourself where possible or reporting immediately to management if not.
Swimming teacher responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- To deliver an excellent quality teaching service.
- To maintain the standards of the Swim School brand in accordance with the Swim School procedures.
- To organise, plan, execute and evaluate a structured programme using the Swim England Learn to Swim Pathway.
- To ensure that the Swim School records (currently Learn2) are updated appropriately with attendance and assessment data.
- To ensure all activities are FUN, and help promote a successful and caring image of the Swim School and the Company.
- To support any other swimming related activity as deemed necessary to provide a quality development programme.
- To take opportunities to update and improve technical knowledge through continuing professional development and staff training.
- To identify suitable pupils for exit routes to performance and excellence pathways.
- Ensure a high standard of customer care is achieved at all times, adopting a warm and welcoming manner which encourages communication with customers.
- To ensure that you are aware of your responsibility under the Health and Safety at Work Act and as a result health & safety procedures are fully met and to ensure a safe teaching environment is maintained for your pupils and other centre users/team members.
- To have a full awareness of the Pool Safety Operating Procedure.
