At Club La Santa, guests can enjoy more than 80 different sports on state-of-the-art facilities and 500 weekly activities and instructed lessons – all included in the stay! With almost 496 rooms spanning from one-bedroom apartments to luxurious suites, we host approximately 1600 guests at maximum capacity. We are also a beloved destination for many national sports teams and professional athletes. The resort is located near La Santa village on the north-western coast of Lanzarote in the Canary Islands. It is an English-speaking resort with the majority of guests from Denmark, United Kingdom and Germany.

Work and responsibilities

Working within the swim team at Club La Santa you will be responsible for teaching a wide range of swim instructions daily. You will be teaching both in the water and by the poolside in any kind of level or age category. The main styles you will be teaching are freestyle, breaststroke, and backstroke in group sessions. We also offer personal instructions and video analysis. The personal instruction is for everyone based on their level and skill set of the guest. The personal instructions can both be done in all the four strokes or within other technical areas such as dives, tumble turns and open water skills. As part of our program, you will also work with toddlers and babies in a nice and calm area where they can slowly build up their confidence. As a skill-experienced swimming coach, you should also be able to teach dryland swimming, open water and tumble turn classes. We expect you to be able to create different training pool sessions focusing on breathing, strength, endurance, speed, intervals, splits, and technique while being methodical. Finally, you will deliver the very best experience to Club La Santa guests.

Working within the Green Team you might be required to work in other areas, like Sports Booking, morning runs, events, evening entertainment, etc. You will work on a flexible schedule that is dynamic and changing. Your working days will be varied in tasks and with eight hours of work a day. You will refer directly to the In-Charge of Swimming (in Lanzarote). Furthermore, you will be a part of the Green Team consisting of around 60 sports instructors and with more than 450 colleagues across 3 countries, you will be part of a big hotel operation.

Qualifications

  • Instructor education or qualifications within swimming.
  • Minimum two years of experience in teaching swimming for children, adults, beginners and advanced swimmers.
  • Fluent in English. Secondary Spanish and/or Danish.

Candidate profile

  • Great communication skills. When speaking to our guests, we expect you to be clear in your diction and specific about the techniques to be used in the different swimming strokes. You know how to communicate in different contexts either during personal instruction or group sessions in the pool or by the poolside. You know how to adapt your body language and tone of voice according to the age category and technical level of the swim class.
  • Curious and open-minded. You are curious and self-reflective. You are open-minded, honest and have an interest in learning, developing, and sharing knowledge about the current trends in swimming. You are ready to share your ideas and points of view during meetings with the swim team.
  • Diligent. You are looking forward to getting to work and want to deliver to Club La Santa’s uncompromisingly high standards every day. You will develop your knowledge and skills while following different workshops on swimming and other areas like body language, teamwork, cooperation, and so on.
  • Teamwork. You are true to our agreements with the swimming team. You are capable to receive feedbacks and feedforwards and implement them. You are able to bring your own style while following the green team manual standard of classes. You will shadow your colleagues and share your different points of view in order to improve the quality of our classes. You can meet deadlines and collaborate with the different tasks such as group equipment requests, tidying up the office, writing new training sessions, helping in developing the swim department following the current trends.
  • Independent. As well as being good at teamwork, in the swimming department, you will be teaching most of the time on your own.
  • Responsible. You are responsible with tasks and self-motivated in both high and low seasons. By the poolside or in the pool you will be responsible for the guests, the equipment used, and the lanes booked for the Green Team classes. You are true to our agreements within the team following the Green Team Manual activities standard, and you have an interest in keeping our areas organized and tidy. You are flexible, structured and always on-time for your classes.
  • Problem-solving and organizational skills. You are good at finding solutions and you have an interest in keeping our areas organized and tidy, especially regarding the swimming equipment used for our classes. You will also help in organizing group equipment according to the booking system and lockers booked.

What do we offer

  • Permanent full time contract with 40 hrs. working week and 2 days off.
  • The annual gross salary is 25.020€.
  • One free lunch will be provided on all working days.
  • Holiday: 30 days a year + 18 extra days of holiday as compensation for work on public holidays including holiday pay.
  • Subsidised shared accommodation at 196.76 € per month (the apartment is shared with another employee and consists of a living room with a small kitchen, bathroom and one bedroom).

Important information for when applying

  • We can only employ people with a passport from the EU community or with a Spanish residencia and work permit.
  • The position will require relocation to Lanzarote if you are not already living here.
  • Only applications in English will be taken into consideration.
  • In the application a video will be required of you where you introduce yourself and your skills as a swimming instructor. Furthermore, we expect to see you teaching, training, or coaching a personal or a group instruction/session at any level or age. This can be done in the water or by the poolside.
  • The minimum period of employment for this job is 9 months, starting with 2 month probationary period.
  • A clean criminal report and child protection certificate will be required from new staff upon arrival.
