Sodexo Government is seeking a skilled and dedicated Mechanical Engineer / Plumber to join our Facilities Management team at HMP Northumberland. This key role involves using your trade skills to provide installation, testing, examination, and maintenance of mechanical and plumbing systems throughout the prison.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out inspections, maintenance, and testing of onsite systems to ensure reliability and compliance with safety standards.
  • Interpret technical diagrams and operational instructions to deliver effective maintenance and installation services.
  • Perform a wide range of mechanical and plumbing repairs, including heating, ventilation, and water systems, and basic electrical tasks.
  • Support the improvement of resident decency standards through inspection and maintenance activities.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance, repairs, and testing in accordance with audit and regulatory requirements.
  • Escort specialist contractors on-site and support them as needed.
  • Adhere to all Health and Safety policies and participate in the on-call rota to provide out-of-hours support.
  • Undertake other duties that contribute to the safe and effective operation of the prison.

Person Specification:

  • Served a recognised apprenticeship with relevant trade qualifications.
  • High level of interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively or independently.
  • A proactive, systematic approach to tasks, with the ability to meet deadlines and prioritise effectively.
  • Positive approach to Health and Safety practices.
  • Physically fit, with the ability to work at height, in confined spaces, and with power tools.
  • Willingness to undergo additional training, such as locksmith's course, as required.
