We are assisting in the recruitment of General Manager to take over an established business in Covent Garden. One of the popular dining concepts in the area, this venue can generate over 4m pa and is a high-volume, relaxed dining concept, with a strong focus on friendly, engaging service.
Providing afternoon and evening service, the simplified menu is popular with the guests and allows the business to provide a highly focussed and controlled offer, ensuring prompt service. Working with well established suppliers, who provide high quality ingredients, the business is focussed on making the working life of their team straightforward and as enjoyable as possible.
As General Manager, your primary function is to lead and develop your team, ensuring that they have all the tools and skills available to carry out their job and focus on the customer engagement and enjoyment. You will:
- Lead the service standards, engage with guests and ensure that they are happy; this is a highly visible hosting role.
- Organise your teams effectively; whilst this isn’t all-day dining, the business is generally open from 12pm to 11pm and can turn over 70k per week, there is a high footfall at the venue.
- Be able to market and promote the business; you are in a highly competitive environment, you should engage and work with other local businesses to promote the restaurant.
- Provide accurate figures and work within your allocated budget, ensuring you hit your targets.
The business has grown steadily since its inception and has 16 venues across the UK, with a strong London presence. This site is one of their central London venues and can receive an unexpected influx of customers at any time. Being able to maintain control and keep calm in stressful situations is a key requirement of the role. You will also:
- Have excellent communication skills, able to work with multiple nationalities and engage with people from all over the world.
- Have gained some experience in a high-turnover, controlled menu environment; niche businesses such as specialist burger or fusion environments would be advantageous.
- Manage a mid-sized team, circa 20 – 40 staff level, with experience in recruiting and training; you will be hands-on in developing your team.
