We're seeking an outstanding Sommelier one of the UK's most prestigious private members' clubs, with sites in London and Surrey. Offering exceptional dining, luxury accommodation, and world-class leisure facilities, the Club prides itself on delivering an unrivalled member experience.

As a member of the Sommelier team, you will be responsible for delivering an exceptional wine service experience to members and guests.

You will provide knowledgeable and engaging wine recommendations, ensuring that wines are selected to complement the menu and meet the individual preferences of guests. You will contribute to maintaining a high standard of service and presentation, while supporting the wider team in delivering an outstanding hospitality experience.

Main Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of the wine list, including updates and printing where required.
  • Deliver consistently high levels of customer service and professional wine knowledge.
  • Work collaboratively as part of the wider food and beverage team.
  • Provide friendly, efficient and knowledgeable service, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all members and guests.
  • Be fully conversant with the food menu and wine list and confidently recommend wines to complement dishes and suit individual preferences.
  • Follow instructions and guidance provided by senior members of the team.
  • Report customer feedback and complaints promptly to the manager on duty.
  • Complete daily mise en place and cleaning duties, maintaining the department to the highest possible standard.
  • Ensure all orders are accurately recorded and billed.
  • Take responsibility for stock and equipment within the department, ensuring resources are used effectively and waste is minimised.
  • Monitor and minimise operational costs, including breakages, wastage, energy and other resources, recording wastage where appropriate.
  • Comply with all relevant licensing legislation and responsible alcohol service requirements.
  • Follow all Health & Safety, Food Hygiene and Fire Safety policies and procedures relevant to the role.
  • Support colleagues and contribute positively to the overall operation and guest experience.

About you:

Essential

  • Level 1 Basic Food Hygiene qualification.
  • WSET Level 2 qualification or equivalent wine knowledge.
  • Awareness of licensing laws and responsible alcohol service.
  • Passion for delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A professional, positive and engaging approach.
  • Good attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards.

Desirable

  • NVQ or equivalent qualification in beverage service.
  • Previous experience using an Electronic Point of Sale (EPOS) system.
  • Previous experience working within a high-quality hospitality, restaurant or private members' club environment.
  • Further wine qualifications or a willingness to develop wine knowledge.
