General Manager
Littledown Leisure Centre, Bournemouth Up to £47,000
We are delighted to be retained by BH Live to manage the search to appoint a General Manager for their flagship Littledown Leisure Centre in Bournemouth. Set in 47 acres of parklands, Littledown is one of the largest and most comprehensive leisure centres in the South of England. The Centre has 1.2m attendances per year, turns over £7m with 8000 fitness members, 2000 participants on learn to swim and offers a 200+ class studio timetable. The large sports hall delivers multiple sporting activities including a high-profile gymnastics programme, soft play, a comprehensive food and beverage operation and an extensive events calendar. Additional outdoor facilities include 6 floodlit 3G, 6 aside football pitches, several grass pitches, a pavilion, children’s playground, a lake and a miniature railway. The team have won multiple accolades in recent years including a National Fitness Award winner for the Local Authority/Leisure Trust Gym of the Year and finalist for the Best Group Exercise Gym of the Year.
Reporting to the Head of Leisure Operations, you will lead, coach, and support a team of 10 heads of department, who in turn manage colleagues across all areas of the centre, including operations, health and wellbeing, sales, recreation, hospitality and junior activities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Full accountability for the commercial performance and programming of the Centre.
- Deliver high volume new membership sales targets and ensure that member retention is optimised.
- Lead by example, coach, inspire and empower your team to outperform against all metrics.
- Have a strong focus on recruitment, colleague training and internal development.
- Consistently deliver great experiences for the customers on every visit.
- Deliver the highest levels of operational excellence and health and safety.
- Continually encourage and deliver innovation within service and business plans.
- Write and prepare regular reports and analysis for both internal and external stakeholders.
We are ideally looking for candidates who can demonstrate the following:
- GM or Regional Management experience in a £2m+ turnover leisure or hospitality business.
- Inspirational leadership and coaching experience managing a large team of colleagues.
- Commercially astute with a strong background driving high volumes of sales.
- Possess a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of health and safety.
As General Manager, you will not be a keyholder, but you would be expected to work a combination of shifts during the week and some weekends. In addition to a basic salary of up to £47K dependent on experience, benefits include 23 days holiday plus bank holidays, company pension matched up to 6% contributions, health cash plan, complimentary gym membership, colleague discounts on food and drink, training and development opportunities and colleague recognition.
