General Manager – New Sports & Leisure Centre – Orpington

We are looking for a General Manager to open and manage an incredible new sports and leisure facility in the Orpington area featuring multiple pools, a state‑of‑the‑art gym and studios, spa, kids’ zone and café.

Key Responsibilities

• Recruit, coach, support and develop your leadership team, inspiring a culture of service excellence and drive for results.
• Support the commercial strategy to drive sales across all products and services including gym membership, studio classes, swimming lessons, sports activities, kids’ activities, retail and events.
• Support delivering health and well‑being initiatives within the centre and in the wider community.
• Full financial accountability: profit and loss, income, expenditure, help set budgets and the business plan.
• Oversee the smooth operation of the facilities, ensuring they are clean, safe and comply with regulations.
• Build strong relations with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring you meet and exceed the needs of the community you serve.
• Work a 40‑hour week, typically during office hours, with the expectation of working some evenings and weekends for important events.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

• At least 3 years of senior management experience within the fitness/sports/leisure industry, possibly as a club manager, sports centre manager or general manager
• Experience in coaching, developing, inspiring and progressing team members within a business
• Experience managing multi‑million‑pound budgets, developing business plans and the ability to read profit and loss accounts
• Operational experience and working understanding of health and safety in a multi‑faceted business
• An appreciation for fulfilling community health and wellbeing objectives
• Living within easy reach of Orpington
