About the Role
As a Trainee Hearing Care Assistant, you will support hearing services and progress from Level 1 to Level 2 responsibilities as you demonstrate required knowledge, skills, and behaviours. Your role enhances clinical excellence, operational efficiency and business growth, particularly in wax removal.
Clinical Duties
- Perform wax removal using microsuction (Tympa equipment), irrigation and manual techniques within 30‑minute appointment slots.
- Conduct hearing screenings with Tympa equipment and carry out minor hearing aid repairs in line with best practice.
- Identify abnormalities and use Tympa Review to refer patients for further medical assessment.
- Make referrals to HCPC‑registered Hearing Aid Dispensers (HAD) or GP with clear written referral letters.
- Deliver high standards of patient care while working under the direction of an HCPC‑registered HAD.
Practice Engagement & Development
- Complete all mandatory company training and attend an external Hearing Care Assistant (HCA) training course.
- Maintain a reflective learning log and prepare for end‑point assessment, meeting all coursework and attendance requirements.
- Shadow a HCPC‑qualified HAD mentor during patient consultations and support supervised clinical activity.
- Assist with clinic preparation, record keeping, aseptic procedures, infection control and the supervised use of audiology equipment.
- Demonstrate professional communication, commitment to patient care and adherence to regulatory and professional policies.
Operational Responsibilities
- Respond promptly, empathetically and professionally to patient enquiries.
- Support practice business development through engagement with local partners and community links.
- Collaborate with the team to improve efficiency, performance and service delivery.
- Assist in training the branch optical team in relation to hearing services.
- Maintain company standards in professionalism, appearance, timekeeping and compliance with health and safety policies.
What You’ll Need
- Minimum of 5 GCSEs Graded 9‑4 (A‑C) or NVQ Level 2 qualification
- Some patient‑facing experience within a healthcare environment
- Full UK driving licence and ability to travel between locations
- Eligibility to work in the UK and availability for the specified days
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Empathy and commitment to outstanding patient care
- Professionalism, punctuality and a well‑presented appearance
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in clinical procedures
- Team‑player mindset with effective collaboration skills
- Organised and able to manage workload efficiently
