Based in Basingstoke, a dynamic regional law firm, entering an ambitious phase of expansion, is looking to appoint an experienced Business Development Manager for a newly created role, which will be pivotal in fuelling the firm’s continued growth through strategic planning and proactive execution. This is a great opportunity offering a blend of strategic oversight and hands-on engagement, requiring a flexible professional ready to represent the firm at key events across Hampshire and on a national stage.
The Business Development Manager will play a central, strategic role in shaping and driving the firm’s growth agenda, taking ownership of the firm-wide business development plan while ensuring that individual Practice Group plans are aligned and effectively integrated into a cohesive strategy. You will be responsible for tracking performance against key objectives, providing clear monthly reporting to the Board on KPIs and overall activity, and using those insights to refine direction and priorities.
Alongside planning, the role holder will lead the design and coordination of business development campaigns and events, maintaining a forward-looking annual calendar and ensuring all initiatives are consistent with the firm’s brand standards. Your remit will also include managing high-value external opportunities such as strategic sponsorships, award submissions, and legal directory entries, and representing the firm at key events where appropriate.
A strong focus on data underpins the role, acting as a champion for CRM usage, to inform decision-making, prioritise opportunities, and define meaningful success metrics across pipeline development, client engagement, and return on investment. In addition, the successful applicant will contribute to building internal capability by supporting onboarding for new joiners, identifying gaps in business development skills or processes, and collaborating with colleagues to strengthen overall effectiveness and ensure the firm is equipped to deliver on its growth ambitions.
Commercially focused and outcome orientated, the ideal candidate will have proven professional services business development experience, ideally gained in the legal sector, to include demonstrable success in translating strategy into achievable business development plans, and possesses a strong understanding of relationship-led, reputation-driven growth. Highly organised, and resilient, with the ability to operate effectively in partner-led environments where influence is key, you will need strong analytical skills, and sound knowledge of the use of CRM systems, ideally HubSpot, as a decision-support and insight tool, and will have a solid awareness of digital channels.
It is essential the Business Development Manager can influence senior stakeholders with credibility and sound judgement, and is comfortable pushing back where activity is not aligned, feasible, or impactful.
