Electrical Engineer - Building Services
Location: Nailsea, North Somerset (BS48) | Hybrid Working
Salary: £32,000-£45,000 DOE
Contract: Permanent | Full-time
An established and well-respected building services consultancy is looking to appoint an Electrical Engineer to join its growing team in Nailsea, near Bristol.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Junior or Intermediate Electrical Engineer looking to develop their technical expertise, broaden their project experience and progress their career within building services engineering.
The business is open to considering candidates at different stages of their careers, from junior engineers with some initial industry experience through to more established engineers who are confident undertaking electrical design work and looking to take on greater responsibility.
You’ll gain exposure to a broad range of projects, sectors and technical challenges, working closely with experienced engineers, directors, clients and wider project teams rather than being confined to one narrow area of work.
From early-stage design through to project delivery, you’ll have the opportunity to develop your technical, commercial and client-facing experience within a supportive and collaborative environment.
The business is committed to developing its people, with opportunities for further training, professional qualifications, chartership, increased responsibility and long-term career progression.
Working alongside the wider engineering team, your responsibilities will include:
- Producing electrical building services designs and engineering calculations
- Designing lighting, power, containment and associated electrical systems
- Preparing and reviewing technical drawings, specifications and design documentation
- Undertaking site surveys, inspections and technical assessments
- Supporting projects from initial concept through detailed design and delivery
- Coordinating with mechanical engineers, architects, contractors and wider multidisciplinary project teams
- Attending project meetings and liaising with clients and other stakeholders
- Ensuring designs comply with relevant UK regulations, technical standards and industry best practice
- Developing your technical knowledge and taking on greater project responsibility as your experience progresses
- Supporting junior or graduate engineers where appropriate to your level of experience
The level of responsibility will be tailored to your existing experience, with support available for those still developing their technical skills and opportunities for more experienced individuals to take greater ownership of design packages and project coordination.
About you
We’re interested in speaking with Junior and Intermediate Electrical Engineers who have:
- Previous experience in electrical building services design, ideally within an engineering consultancy or similar environment
- A degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a closely related discipline
- Experience preparing electrical designs, calculations and associated technical documentation
- A working knowledge of relevant UK electrical regulations, standards and design requirements
- Experience collaborating with other disciplines and wider project teams
- Good analytical, technical and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- A proactive approach and willingness to continue developing professionally
You don’t need to be an expert in every aspect of electrical building services design. The business is equally interested in engineers with a solid foundation who are keen to develop, as well as those with more established technical experience looking for their next opportunity.
A full UK driving licence would be advantageous.
Some projects may require UK security clearance, so candidates will need to be able to satisfy the relevant clearance requirements where applicable.

- Strong employer pension contributions
- Private medical cover following the relevant qualifying period
