Location: Farnborough or Whiteley, with flexibility to work from home dependent on business demands.

Role Summary: The Technical Lead has overall responsibility for all engineering activities and leadership of the team on the assigned workstream, entrusted by the Chief Engineer. They oversee the project from start‑up through to operations and closedown, including contract growth.

Responsibilities

  • Delivery and technical assurance of the solution within quality, cost and schedule constraints.
  • Achieving acceptance of the solution by the customer.
  • Providing technical leadership and mentorship across the workstream team.
  • Ensuring engineering processes align with contracted standards and corporate governance.
  • Identifying the skills and staff required to deliver the engineering solution.
  • Defining engineering practices and resources required to deliver the project within company policies.
  • Lead and manage effective engineering activities across the project.
  • Prepare project‑specific technical documentation for PDR, CDR, SRR and SPR reviews.
  • Lead and deliver updates to baseline HLD / LLD documentation as required.
  • In collaboration with PMs prepare technical WBS, PBS and resource BoEs against overall solution proposals for change proposals and contract growth.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Technical leader, able to coordinate and direct engineering teams for successful delivery and acceptance.
  • Significant practical experience and applied knowledge across complex systems integration projects involving IT systems.
  • Technical Management of subcontractors.
  • Systems Engineering and understanding of the principles behind each of the main processes.
  • Technical Team Management – planning of work packages, allocation to team members and reporting.
  • Technical Team Leadership – providing technical direction to team members.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Ability to clearly articulate and communicate design and technical concepts.
  • Intellectual calibre and confidence to conduct complex discussions with civilian and service customers and suppliers.
  • Commercial awareness sufficient to support discussions with customers and suppliers.

Desirable Experience

  • Public sector and sensitive projects.
  • Background in Software Engineering or IT Systems Integration.
  • Knowledge of Government or MOD organisation, processes and procedures.

Clearance Requirements

The successful applicant must hold and maintain UK Security Clearance.
