Infrastructure Change Engineer – Huntingdon, UK
High clearance (DV – Developed Vetting) required.
The role is a mid‑level Agile (SAFe) Infrastructure Engineer responsible for maintaining, optimising and supporting an enterprise VMware and Net App environment.
Duties include managing physical hardware, v Sphere compute, NSX, Net App ONTAP storage and VMware Horizon VDI.
The position is 4–5 days per week, on site, and only UK nationals may apply.
Responsibilities
- Participate in PI planning and break down features into team stories with accurate point estimations.
- Engage in daily stand‑ups, backlog refinement, sprint planning and retrospectives.
- Maintain and update assigned backlog items in Jira/Azure Dev Ops, ensuring visibility of status and blockers.
- Deliver system demos of completed infrastructure increments to stakeholders at sprint end.
- Administer VMware NSX – including virtual routing, security groups and micro‑segmentation policies.
- Operate the v Sphere environment – ESXi hosts, v Center, VM provisioning, cluster resource monitoring and lifecycle patching.
- Manage Net App ONTAP – provisioning volumes, configuring aggregates, NFS/i SCSI/SMB protocols, and capacity monitoring.
- Apply Net App data‑protection workflows using Snapshot, Snap Mirror and Snap Vault technologies.
- Support physical hardware – rack servers, monitor blade systems and replace faulty components.
- Maintain Horizon VDI – manage desktop pools, user entitlements and optimise golden image performance.
- Troubleshoot mid‑level Horizon client and App Volumes issues, including DEM user profiles.
- Leverage scripts (Power CLI, Ansible, Terraform) to automate VMware provisioning and Net App storage tasks.
- Perform lifecycle management – backups, health monitoring and patching across physical and virtual systems.
Qualifications and Skills
- Technical Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
- 2–4 years administering VMware v Sphere, NSX and Horizon.
- Experience managing Net App systems running ONTAP.
- Knowledge of enterprise server hardware (Cisco UCS, Dell Power Edge, HPE Pro Liant).
- Ability to read, modify and run scripts using Power CLI, Power Shell or Ansible.
- Preferred certifications: VCP‑DCV, VCP‑NV, Net App Certified Data Administrator or equivalent.
- Agile & Framework Requirements
- 1+ years working within a Scaled Agile or Scrum team environment.
- Daily proficiency with Jira, Confluence or Azure Dev Ops.
- Preferred certifications: SAFe Practitioner (SP) or Scrum Certified.
- Soft Skills
- Team player – collaborative across cross‑functional members to achieve sprint goals.
- Problem‑solving – strong troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve mid‑level technical issues.
