Are you ready for your next challenge? We are seeking a Senior Cyber Security Engineer with a strong technical background to primarily support our customer site in Huntingdon, with occasional travel to London and other UK locations as required. Reporting to the Cyber Security Engineering Lead, you will provide senior technical expertise within the Security Engineering team, supporting the delivery of security services, mentoring engineers, and helping maintain a strong cyber security posture across customer environments.

You will be responsible for ensuring security technologies and controls are effectively managed, maintained, and enhanced whilst supporting the secure implementation of new capabilities. The role includes coordinating Security Engineering support activities, overseeing service desk workloads, and providing line management to the Change Security Engineers. You will help ensure the programme maintains an effective and adaptable in-service security capability, aligning technical solutions with evolving customer requirements, legislation, security policies, and accreditation standards.

This position will perform the following tasks:

  • Implement, maintain, and enhance security tooling and technical controls.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to Security Engineers.
  • Ensure systems maintain compliance with security baselines, policies, and standards.
  • Develop and maintain security baselines, standards, and documentation.
  • Coordinate Security Engineering service desk activities, prioritising and overseeing ticket resolution to ensure timely and effective support.
  • Support Security Monitoring requirements, including logging and SIEM integration.
  • Work with customers and stakeholders to develop security policies, processes, and technical solutions.
  • Assess vulnerabilities, support risk mitigation, and validate remediation activities.
  • Deliver security assessments and provide security engineering support to projects and changes.
  • Act as Line Manager for the Change Security Engineers, providing tasking, performance management, development, and pastoral support.
  • Support the Security Engineering Lead with planning, prioritization, and delivery of security engineering activities.

Candidate Essentials:

  • British - Non-dual national – many of our projects have nationality restrictions - DV cleared or eligible to go through MOD DV process.
  • Location - Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire (minimum 4 days per week onsite attendance expected; any alternative working arrangements to be agreed with the Cyber Security Engineering Lead). - Occasional travel to London and other UK customer sites may be required.

Process Skills/Experience:

  • Experience implementing defence-in-depth and layered security architectures within complex environments.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and governing preventative and detective security controls to manage and reduce risk.
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering lifecycle processes, including requirements, change, configuration, and risk management.
  • Experience working across multiple delivery methodologies, including Waterfall, SAFe Agile, and DevSecOps.
  • Experience conducting design trade-off activities with architects, engineers, and stakeholders to deliver secure, integrated solutions.
  • Understanding of service operations, security operations, and the management of security engineering service delivery.
  • Experience coordinating and prioritising security engineering support activities, including service desk ticket management and technical task allocation.
  • Experience providing technical mentoring and guidance to engineering teams.
  • Experience of line management, performance development, and workload management within technical teams.
  • Experience working within both delivery and bid/proposal environments.
  • Experience supporting Defence Digital programmes and applying MOD security policies, standards, and approaches.

Technology skills/Experience:

  • Excellent understanding of Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability (CIA) and practical experience in applying that.
  • Endpoint Protection products.
  • Malware.
  • App Control.
  • DLP.
  • Experience in implementing security requirements for a system: Microsoft OS, Linux OS, Virtualisation technologies, Networking, Endpoint Security Products.
  • Working knowledge of the accreditation process for secure/sensitive systems.
  • Experience in producing/updating Design artefacts.
  • Understanding of the implementation, operation and maintenance of SIEM products.
  • Understanding of network and boundary protection technologies (firewalls, mail gateways, load balancers, anti-virus).
  • Understanding of authentication and authorisation technologies (SAML, LDAP, PKI, etc).
  • Understanding of security infrastructure in Public and Private cloud, e.g. virtual network infrastructure, hybrid IaaS/PaaS/SaaS solutions.
  • Understanding of DevSecOps principles and their application to secure system design, development, testing, and deployment.

Communication and Soft Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively to a wide range of audiences.
  • Capable of developing and communicating a vision to meet the System Requirements.
  • A good level of commercial awareness that will support the bid and delivery environments.
  • Ability to effectively manage and prioritise multiple concurrent tasks, projects, and operational activities within a dynamic delivery environment.

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience working in both delivery and proposal environments.
  • Experience working in MOD or Home Office project environments.
  • Working within an AGILE environment.
