The Role: As a Senior Systems Engineer on a critical national infrastructure programme you will have a full understanding of systems engineering principles and prior experience in a similar role integrating deliveries from suppliers. You will work with customers and suppliers to execute Systems Engineering activities across the full lifecycle, including focus on Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and architecture frameworks such as DoDAF, MODAF, and TOGAF. You will design, implement, and maintain complex systems that align with business objectives while adhering to industry-standard architecture frameworks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with stakeholders, suppliers and architects to refine system and sub-system requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Model functional and non-functional requirements and scenarios using MBSE and architectural framework approaches.
  • Model operational, business and system designs and behaviours within architectural views.
  • Define and develop requirements, turning them into feasible solutions by proposing architecture, system and component definitions.
  • Develop component and system specifications and compliance criteria for system items, hardware and software.
  • Ensure systems, items and components meet industry security and safety standards.
  • Manage requirements at all levels from system down to hardware and software.
  • Define validation plans and ensure compliance through analysis, simulation and/or test (e.g. DO160).
  • Maintain interface control documents and application programming interfaces.
  • Allocate requirements to lower-level components, conducting technical derivation analysis as needed.
  • Manage compliance assessments at system and lower levels.
  • Maintain high-level designs and oversee development of lower-level designs.
  • Produce detailed engineering artefacts such as high-level and low-level designs, compliance reports, and milestone technical reviews.
  • Engage technically with the supply chain and coordinate with systems architects and simulation engineers.
  • Anticipate and manage technical and business issues, arbitrate between solutions considering sustainability, reusability, optimisation, schedule, quality, cost, risks, safety and performance.
  • Generate technical reports and presentations.
  • Develop specification documents and procedures before launch into manufacturing.
  • Ensure production, compliance and testing of components, items and systems.
  • Develop validation test methods and protocols using aerospace best practices.
  • Participate in in-depth analysis of test data.
  • Ensure configuration management is in place from requirement through to operation.
  • Provide technical feedback on design and development of mechanical and electrical sub-systems.
  • Facilitate technical review sessions and deliver project health status updates.
  • Engage with clients, suppliers, and regulatory bodies to formulate engineering solutions.
  • Identify technical risks and devise mitigation strategies.
  • Manage the technical backlog and content of associated releases.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in defence, security or other safety and security critical information systems sectors.
  • Strong experience with systems modelling and MBSE tools (e.g. NoMagic Cameo), architectural frameworks (e.g. TOGAF) and languages (e.g. SysML).
  • Strong knowledge of requirements and user scenario development in both text-based and model-based approaches.
  • Success working within mission-critical systems integration programmes.
  • Ability to work with multiple stakeholders and suppliers across organisational boundaries.
  • Experience developing system behaviour diagrams, modelling interfaces and encapsulating functional.
