Are you a Cloud Engineer interested in new technology and trends with a strong track record in Cloud Infrastructure Support and Deployment? Would you like to be part of a growing Managed Services team?

Leidos is a global science and technology solutions leader working to solve the world’s toughest challenges in the defence, intelligence, homeland security, civil, and health markets. The company’s 33,000 employees support vital missions for government and commercial customers.

What will you be doing?

The team is close-knit, with colleagues supporting one another and working collaboratively to deliver high-quality outcomes. Whilst predominantly an operational team providing third line support, they regularly get involved in project work too. The nature of the work means that you will work on multiple programmes based on either AWS or Azure Cloud Platforms. Working with multiple programmes has its challenges. You will be moving between different technologies with different configurations regularly each day. This provides the opportunity to develop broad technical expertise across a wide range of technologies, rather than being limited to a single specialist area.

You will be expected to contribute towards technical documentation and provide material to support the project or operational work package. We provide an on-call facility for some of our programmes and involvement in the rotation is ideally required but it does attract an additional payment.

Who do we need?

We are looking for someone with a passion for infrastructure, ideally from a managed services background with experience in cloud hosted and privately hosted environments. You will be self-motivated and able to multitask in line with project plans and customer SLA’s. You must be comfortable speaking to customers and have very good written and oral communication skills. A high level of organisational ability is a must to enable you to manage the demands of multi-programme support.

Location wise many of the team are located in Glasgow and Aberdeen and attend the office usually twice a week. Whilst we offer a fully flexible working model and we invite applications from anywhere in the UK, we do see the benefit in collaborative working in person some of the time. Supporting predominantly cloud environments nowadays there is less need for regular travel but flexibility is needed from time to time as the team do get together for specific pieces of work or more social occasions.

Ideally, you will:

  • Have excellent knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure
  • Have excellent knowledge of Windows Server Environments including OS build, AD, DNS, DHCP and GP from design to implementation and support
  • Have excellent knowledge of Infrastructure as Code and modern DevOps practices, including Terraform and CloudFormation, source control (Git), CI/CD pipelines, automation and scripting (PowerShell/Bash), configuration management, cloud identity and access management, monitoring and observability, and containerisation technologies including Kubernetes and cloud-managed Kubernetes services.
  • Have good general knowledge of Networking Technology including load balancing and firewalls
  • Have good general knowledge of SAN Storage Technologies
  • Have excellent analysis and problem solving skills, taking ownership of complex incidents ensuring these are resolved to the satisfaction of the customer
  • Possess excellent customer communication skills
  • Have experience of producing and updating technical documentation to a high standard
  • Be experienced working within ITIL framework particularly around change control

Be prepared with examples that demonstrate your adaptability, communication skills, and how you handle client feedback. Before the interview, think of situations where you worked closely with clients to create effective IT strategies or changes.
