Field Service Technician – Home based, covering London airports predominantly. Permanent role, based close to London (Berkshire, Hertfordshire, Beds/Bucks or nearby) within 2-3 hours of Stansted, Luton and City airports. Provides technical support by installing, troubleshooting, maintaining and servicing x‑ray and CT based security systems at customer sites.
Responsibilities
- Under limited supervision, perform a wide variety of technical support activities, including installing, calibrating, maintaining and repairing complex x‑ray and CT based security systems.
- Coordinate planning and delivery of preventative maintenance services to regional customers.
- Ensure response times and resolution for corrective maintenance are achieved within outlined KPI and SLA targets.
- Accurately create, process and complete work orders in Salesforce Lightning, recording clear, concise information for business intelligence, performance and compliance reporting.
- Maintain a professional and commercially sensitive standard of customer presentations, communications and reporting.
- Maintain high workplace standards of teamwork, with a focus on high quality, help up peer technicians and manage projects with internal stakeholders.
- Follow and promote group and company health & safety policies, use PPE, handle tools and equipment safely, and perform duties in confined, high‑risk or restricted areas.
- Adhere to the company’s Equality Policy and demonstrate personal responsibility for safety and procedural compliance.
Requirements
- Excellent customer interface, presentation and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Knowledge of complex digital and analog circuitry (Linux a plus). Ability to troubleshoot mechanical systems and use test equipment such as DVM and oscilloscope, with experience in high‑voltage and x‑ray producing equipment preferred.
- Strong technical knowledge of x‑ray and CT technologies and the company’s products.
- Team player capable of prioritising and working under pressure in a fast‑paced environment with minimal oversight; able to perform multiple activities simultaneously and independently.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft 365, IT systems, network and PLC diagnostics, and specialist software platforms used for aviation security systems.
- Hands‑on experience in field software maintenance, diagnostics and secure in‑field software upgrades to ensure ongoing aviation safety compliance and system performance.
Experience
- Experience in security and detection systems and aviation environments, preferably in a global setting.
- Prior field service experience within a directly applicable industry.
- Strong technical knowledge of x‑ray and CT technologies, company’s products, and equipment.
- Wide ranging technical background (automation, automotive, aerospace, mechanical/material handling, conveyor systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, robotics, control systems, electrical power systems).
Technical Qualifications
- NVQ Level 3, HNC, HND in Electronics, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent highly desirable.
- Engineering graduate, or military training in electronics engineering technology or equivalent (highly desirable).
Other
- Must be available for travel throughout the UK on short notice, work non‑standard hours, weekends and public holidays, and assist other field sites.
- Flexibility to participate in out‑of‑hours rotas and occasional overnight stays.
- UK driving licence required.
- Five‑year checkable UK work history required to obtain relevant airside passes.
- Capability to lift and manually handle tools, test equipment, spare parts and system components up to 16 kg unaided, and occasionally heavier items using approved lifting aids.
- Will travel significant distances on foot between terminal locations and secure zones, sometimes in confined spaces or raised platforms.
