Overview

This role is for an experienced Cyber Security Architect to be based at a customer site in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, with occasional travel to other UK locations. You will work alongside engineering and delivery teams to design, assure and maintain a strong and resilient cyber security posture across the customer estate, ensuring that solution security designs meet all functional and non‑functional security requirements and deliver the required level of assurance to the client.
Responsibilities
- Apply defence‑in‑depth, multi‑layered security architecture design.
- Apply proportionate preventative and detective controls to reduce risk to an acceptable level.
- Understand systems engineering lifecycle controls and provide guidance across requirements and configuration management.
- Familiarity with delivery methodologies – waterfall, incremental, SAFe Agile, and DevOps.
- Provide security review and assurance of High Level Design (HLD) and Low Level Design (LLD) artefacts.
- Perform design trade‑offs in collaboration with architects and engineers to deliver integrated solutions.
- Understand service operations and security operational management planning.
- Support delivery activities within secure or sensitive environments.
- Familiarity with Defence Digital environments and MOD‑aligned programmes.
Technology Skills
- Strong understanding of Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability (CIA) and practical experience applying these principles to security architecture and design.
- Define derived security requirements and maintain traceability across system designs.
- Deliver security assurance for secure and sensitive systems across the lifecycle, aligned to Secure by Design (SbD) principles.
- Produce and review security documentation sets (SyOPs, RMADs, Security Management Plans, DART submissions).
- Knowledge of SIEM technologies and their implementation, operation and ongoing management.
- Understanding of network and boundary protection technologies (firewalls, mail gateways, load balancers, endpoint protection).
- Understand authentication and authorisation mechanisms (SAML, LDAP, PKI).
- Certifications such as CISM or CISSP desirable; experience with SABSA or similar frameworks.
Communication and Soft Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload and meet delivery timelines.
- Develop and communicate a clear security vision supporting system requirements and overall solution outcomes.
- Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Commercial awareness and support for effective delivery within programme constraints.
- Experience in line management, supporting, developing and guiding team members.
Clearance Requirements
You must hold or be eligible to obtain Developed Vetting (DV) clearance at the appropriate level.
Qualifications
- Extensive experience in cyber security architecture within government environments.
- Strong understanding of cyber risk and proportionate risk treatment approaches.
- Ability to clearly articulate risk and management to stakeholders of varied backgrounds.
- Experience securing highly sensitive systems and applying appropriate controls.
- Knowledge of HMG standards, MOD specific JSPs, NIST CSF, RMF and Secure by Design (SbD) principles.
Benefits
Competitive salary £61,500 – £78,800 annually.
