Location: Whiteley/Hybrid/Occasional travel to site will be required.

Clearance Requirements: Current SC clearance, or the ability to gain SC clearance.

We are recruiting a systems engineer to support the development of an ATM system. This is an opportunity to work on an exciting programme delivering critical services and infrastructure key to the future of UK Air Traffic Management. The successful candidate does not need to be familiar with ATM (although it would be an advantage) as on-the-job training will be provided as required.

Typical Duties:

  • Working with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), product architects and product requirements to define low level/software requirements (e.g. requirements gathering, requirements analysis, requirements workshops, etc.)
  • Conducting functional and technical analysis, as required, to shape the system design.
  • Producing detailed engineering artefacts such as: Engineering Plans and Processes Documents, System Element Descriptions, Control and Monitoring Design Documents, Interface Design Documents (IDDs), Failure Modes Effect Analysis (FMEA), Safety artefacts associated with ED109A.
  • Preparing operational instructions/training material for the software application and/or supporting tools.
  • Assisting with the definition of overarching product concepts and software architecture.
  • Assisting the investigation of problems identified during test and operations, including problem diagnosis and resolution.
  • Reviewing test artefacts such as test cases and test procedures.
  • Applying the appropriate standards, processes and principles in their daily activities.
  • Assisting with impact assessments for product releases or change requests in the pipeline.

Required Skills:

  • Experience of requirements management and associated software (e.g. DOORS).
  • Experience of systems architecture within a real-time and/or safety-related system and/or mission critical environment.
  • Experience of the complete system life cycle from problem definition through to deployment.
  • Experience of the ability to work as part of a Multi-functional product team (Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Test, Engineering Management).
  • Enthusiastic self-starter with good attention to detail and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent written communication through the use of e-mail, presentations and reports.
  • Understanding of various development methodologies.
  • Ability to work with due attention to schedule and cost constraints.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience of Atlassian tools (e.g. Jira, Crucible, Confluence).
  • Experience of working with external stakeholders and suppliers, working across organisational boundaries as appropriate.
  • Knowledge of Air Traffic Management within the UK.
  • Knowledge of systems/software design tools (e.g. Enterprise Architect, Cameo Systems Modeller).
  • Knowledge of Control and Monitoring technologies (e.g. SNMP v2c, SNMP v3).
