Join us as an operational officer – a unique role with changing demands. You must be adaptable, think on your feet, and act with integrity at all times. You will work 12‐hour shifts, engage with a wide variety of people, and protect the vulnerable. As a Police Constable you will also experience some of the proudest moments of your career, from protecting lives to making local communities feel safer.

Salary
Starting salary £31,164 with annual increments, moving to £50,256 within 7 years.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide frontline response to incidents, including complex and confrontational situations, assessing risk and determining a proportionate response.
  • Lead local partnership initiatives to problem‐solve and support community organisations and individuals.
  • Engage with victims, witnesses, suspects and the vulnerable, respecting equality, diversity and human rights.
  • Maintain awareness of risks and take action to protect those needing public protection.
  • Conduct priority and high‐volume investigations, developing high‐quality case files for criminal justice proceedings.
  • Gather and handle information, intelligence and evidence in line with legislation and guidance.

The must haves

  • Hold two A‐levels or a Level 3 equivalent qualification in any subject, or be in your final year of study.
  • Or a current serving Police Constable (PCSO) who has completed a professional development plan, passed probation and is up to date with mandatory training.
  • Or a current serving Special Constable with independent patrol status, completing 16 hours per month, up to date with mandatory training.
  • Or a current serving ISA with 12 months service, completion of the Leicestershire Police ISA training course, and probation passed.
  • Hold a driving licence by pre‐employment stage (typically 14–16 weeks before cohort start).

These will not be checked until pre‐employment checks. Leicestershire Special Constables who hold IPS or DMP do not need to undertake National Sift or the Online Assessment Centre.
