Job Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Occupational Therapist who has an interest in working in our Mental Health Services for Older People (MHSOP) to join our Inpatient team at the Bennion Centre, Glenfield Hospital Site. The service predominantly provides input to individuals with a variety of functional mental health difficulties, and there are opportunities to work with individuals with cognitive issues. The role provides variety within a mental health inpatient setting, including assessment and treatment for mental health challenges, with the possibility to use physical health knowledge, groupwork and individual skills. You will work closely with other AHP colleagues, nursing and medical staff.

The service offers regular supervision, appraisal and support from an established team of Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants, Therapy Technical Instructors and Physiotherapist. If appropriate you will be enrolled on a preceptorship programme. Good tech skills are a bonus, as you will be using an electronic patient record and may use other digital tools to support your work. Support will be provided to get you up and running. Job Description Summary (Main Duties And Responsibilities)

To provide interesting and varied occupational opportunities for individuals and within groups which supports comprehensive assessment in order to identify the most appropriate interventions. To understand the needs and challenges of older adults whilst promoting independence and engagement to improve both mental and physical health difficulties.

You will need to have a professional, patient and caring approach. Be keen to learn from and with others to improve practice and the wider service. Have excellent problem solving skills and adaptability to carry a caseload, with the support of a Band 6, and have a positive approach to collaborative working. Excellent communication skills are essential.

You must be a HCPC registered Occupational Therapist, ideally with some relevant skills in mental health, but we can work on these with you. Transferable skills, student and life experience will definitely be considered.
