Overview

Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust is seeking a Deputy Mental Health Practitioner (30 hours/week) within the Older Persons Neighbourhood Team. The role is initially based at Spinney Hill and will require travel across the City, with some home working. The team provides a service Monday–Friday, 9–5 (negotiable to accommodate 30 hours). The service focuses on assessing, supporting, and educating to prevent admission or support discharge for older people with functional and organic mental health challenges. The Deputy includes line management responsibilities working closely with the Team Leader.

This is a suitable opportunity for individuals with experience with older people and community work, including clinical supervision and appraisals. A real passion for mentoring students is welcome. Travel is required, so a driving licence is required.

Responsibilities

  • Clinical Leadership and Support: assist the Team Leader to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the service; provide clinical supervision and delegation of tasks to nurses and healthcare assistants.
  • Care Planning and Delivery: participate in assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for patients/service users.
  • Medication Administration: assist with and oversee safe medication administration.
  • Maintaining Standards: ensure service standards are met and care aligns with policies and procedures.
  • Shift Coordination: coordinate the nursing team during shifts and manage staffing levels and skill mix.
  • Absence Cover: cover the Team Leader in their absence and take responsibility for the unit/service.
  • Incident Management: respond to incidents and emergencies and take appropriate action.
  • Communication: maintain effective communication within the team and with other healthcare professionals.
  • Quality Improvement and Service Development: contribute to quality improvement initiatives and promote evidence-based practice; participate in training and education of junior staff; work within a multidisciplinary team for case discussions and decision-making.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Registered Mental Health Practitioner (required).
  • Clinical expertise in the relevant area.
  • Leadership and management qualities to lead and motivate a team, manage workload, and make decisions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Commitment to high-quality, safe, and effective care.
