Our community mental health offer is undergoing a major transformation, and we are searching for people with a range of skills and a passion to deliver great mental health services.

We currently have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Mental Health Nurse to apply for a Band 6 CPN post in the West Leicestershire CMHT. The CMHT is part of secondary care services, providing assessments and treatment packages for a range of service users aged 18-65 years, with complex mental health needs. There will be opportunities to develop, and university courses will be available, for example, Non-Medical Prescribing.

The post holders will maintain a clinical caseload, fulfilling all the roles and responsibilities of a Care Coordinator. They will work effectively in the multidisciplinary team to provide high-quality mental health assessments, treatment programmes, and manage risk. This work will involve patients and their carers in evidence-based interventions/treatments and recovery-focused work. You will need to demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment to high-quality care, as well as possessing good therapeutic and interpersonal skills. The post holder will be required to work autonomously as well as within the MDT and other settings. You will visit people in their own homes and communities, as well as run clinics at the team base and other community venues.

Main Duties And Responsibilities:

  • The successful candidate will be responsible for organising and planning their own caseload as an autonomous practitioner, monitoring those of other team members to meet patient priorities and service needs (e.g., peer audits).
  • They will work in a multidisciplinary framework, prioritising and organising workload effectively, and using time management skills to readjust plans as situations change, such as crisis needs of patients, tribunal reports, and Mental Health Act meetings.
  • The post holder will respond to referrals from primary care, outpatient, and ward settings by undertaking comprehensive assessments of patients who may have complex needs (mental health, physical, emotional, and psychosocial).
  • They will use investigative, analytical, and clinical reasoning skills to provide accurate reports of their condition, feeding this back to the professionals involved in their care both in writing and verbally.
  • They will receive clinical supervision monthly, supervise and coordinate less experienced staff and students, and ensure standards of good practice are maintained through leadership and supervision.
  • They will also provide advice, training, and education to other members of the MDT and colleagues regarding nursing and evidence-based interventions.
