Job Overview

We are currently recruiting an experienced Switchboard Operator for the Trust\’s Estates and Facilities Directorate, within soft FM services.

There is an 18-hour vacancy at our Bradgate Unit within Glenfield Hospital. Shift times are between 12 noon and 7:15 pm, including alternate weekends on a two-week rota.

As a Switchboard Operator, you will provide a comprehensive, high-quality switchboard service to patients, staff, and the public on behalf of the Trust.

Excellent communication skills are essential, as the team is usually the first point of contact for most callers.

Switchboard is a busy environment dealing with all types of calls to the Trust and often working alone.

Job Description Summary (Main Duties and Responsibilities)

  • Respond to monitors/alarms within an agreed scope and carry out emergency procedures.
  • Provide a polite and courteous telephone manner when receiving and redirecting calls.
  • Process telephone calls efficiently via switchboard consoles and extensions.
  • Offer a welcoming service for routine inquiries and assist staff and the public.
  • Operate the computer-based switchboard proficiently, making decisions and handling emergency calls calmly in a high-pressure environment, e.g., cardiac arrests, trauma, fire, major incidents, bomb threats, gas alarms, and lift entrapments.
  • Be enthusiastic and adaptable within the varied roles of the Switchboard.
