Job Objectives

Reporting to the Chief Accountant, the successful candidate will serve as Financial Systems Accountant/Lead for our Finance System (Agresso) and Capital Accountant for a small capital programme of around £5 million (2025/26). The role also involves a major capital project to build a new Learning & Development Facility for Fire Fighter training that has just commenced.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Finance system (Agresso) administration and development for accounting purposes
  • Capital accounting, including closedown of capital for the statement of accounts
  • Annual budget setting for the capital programme
  • Budget monitoring of the capital programme
  • Providing financial advice and support to project managers
  • Attending and representing finance at capital project meetings
  • Managing and maintaining the capital assets register, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant accounting standards

Skills Required

Strong finance systems experience is required; systems training and personal development opportunities are available. Candidates should also have capital accounting experience, proven experience managing fixed assets in a similar role, and strong knowledge of accounting principles and standards related to capital assets. Hold a professional accounting qualification or be working towards one (CCAB or equivalent). Exam support will be available. Local government finance experience is preferred but not essential. Confident communication skills are essential, with the ability to foster relationships and adapt to changing priorities.
