An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Waste Management Delivery Service, as Leicestershire County Council is looking to recruit Plant Operatives to support the operation of the Council's Waste Transfer Stations (WTS). Two positions are available, all positions are full time (5 days per week, usually Monday to Friday, but may include working weekends and Bank Holidays, which are paid as double time). Varying hours work between 6:45am and 6:00pm. Successful candidates will usually be based at Whetstone WTS but must be prepared to be based at any of the three sites on a day‑to‑day basis (Loughborough, Kibworth, and Whetstone).
Responsibilities:
- You will operate a variety of heavy plant and equipment, including a JCB 5CX Waste Master, loading shovels, telehandlers and forklift trucks, to transfer waste from busy WTS in strict accordance with safe systems of work.
- The role also involves maximising the recovery of recyclables within waste and safely controlling deliveries from private traders and district councils.
- When not operating plant machinery, the role may require working on the Recycling and Household Waste Sites.
Qualifications:
- A loading shovel ticket (training may be provided to suitable candidates who do not currently have a valid ticket).
- Access to an appropriate vehicle and a valid UK driver’s licence (or willingness to gain one within 12 months).
- Knowledge of waste transfer station operations.
- Health and safety awareness.
- Effective time‑management and problem‑solving skills.
- Basic level of IT, Maths and English at GCSE or equivalent.
- Level 3 award in first aid at work or willingness to obtain it.
