Responsibilities
- Deputise for the Pre‑school leader and ensure that the development and needs of all children attending the pre‑school are met through the implementation of the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, taking into account the SEN code of practice and an anti‑bias approach, and, in consultation with the Head Teacher, undertake curriculum planning.
- Lead on all aspects of SEND and support the planning for pre‑school, ensuring appropriate progression and directing other staff to deliver it.
- Understand child development and the importance of learning through play when planning activities for children.
- Provide the Head Teacher with relevant information for monitoring purposes.
- Ensure that all staff deliver the appropriate stimulation and support to children and undertake all duties and activities in the provision of learning to children.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety, child protection and other relevant policies.
- Maintain appropriate records of children’s progression in accordance with the Data Protection Act.
- Undertake training to meet professional and personal development needs.
- Support the implementation of any future Government Initiatives relating to the work of the pre‑school.
- Actively support the development and review of all pre‑school policies and procedures.
- Mentor and role model for the pre‑school team.
- Engage parents in the planning and implementation of their child(ren)’s care and education.
- Work flexibly to meet the needs of children and families, and supervise staff training and development.
- Perform any other duties commensurate with the post as delegated by the Head Teacher.
Qualifications
The candidate will hold a Level 3 qualification in Childcare (or equivalent) and ideally have a SENCO qualification. They should have strong experience of working with children under five within an early years setting and strong knowledge of safeguarding and current legislation for Early Years.
