About the Role

We are looking for an experienced, highly capable, and motivated Team Leader- PA to Director - Secretariat Services to support the leadership team within the Council's Corporate Resources department. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the centre of the department, providing high‑level support to senior leaders and playing an important role in the smooth and effective running of key business functions.

The successful candidate will provide job‑share support to the Director, as well as supporting the wider Assistant Directors, while also taking on line management responsibilities. This is a varied and rewarding role that offers the chance to build strong working relationships, use your initiative, and make a real contribution to the success of the team.

As the first point of contact for the Director and Assistant Directors, you will play a key role at the heart of the department, building strong relationships across the organisation and with external partners. You will manage a varied and interesting range of enquiries, including sensitive and high‑profile matters, while overseeing complex diary and inbox management and coordinating senior‑level meetings.

The role also offers the opportunity to shape departmental communications, organise events, maintain intranet content, and contribute to business continuity, risk management, and performance reporting, making this a varied and influential position where you can make a real impact.

Alongside a rewarding and varied role, we offer a generous annual leave package of 25 days, increasing to 30 days after five years' service, helping you maintain a positive work‑life balance.

About You

To apply for this post, you must be able to evidence in your application how you meet the following criteria:

  • Strong administrative/high‑quality executive or senior‑level business support experience, ideally backed by an NVQ Level 3 in Business Administration or equivalent relevant experience, including complex diary and email management.
  • Experience of supervising staff, organising/prioritising and allocating work, and supporting service improvement.
  • Produce high‑quality reports and correspondence, maintaining accurate record systems, and using Microsoft Office packages including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to a high standard.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to respond to enquiries appropriately, engage with officers and members of the Council to ensure key activities are progressed smoothly and on time.
  • Strong focus on customer care, displaying tact, diplomacy and resilience when dealing with difficult situations and always projecting a confident and professional image.
  • Self‑motivated, organised, and able to work flexibly, using initiative to resolve issues and respond to changing demands.
  • Able to work quickly and accurately to deadlines, maintain professionalism in challenging situations, and inspire confidence through credibility, judgement and approach.
  • Good understanding of how local government works and the key issues/challenges facing local government and high levels of political awareness.
  • Understand the importance of excellent customer service, confidentiality, data protection and equal opportunities, and be confident applying this knowledge in a busy and professional environment.
  • Working knowledge of the Council's committee system will be advantageous.
