Leicestershire County Council has an exciting opportunity for a Legal Assistant to join its Environment and Property Team dealing with a wide range of highway agreements and orders.

We would welcome applications from a broad range of candidates and in particular those candidates working in a legal environment. Experience of working in local government is not necessary. The ideal candidate should have or be working towards a Legal Executive qualification or equivalent; or possess a relevant third qualification.

About the Role

To deal with the processing of a range of orders necessary to undertake works on public highways including the extinguishment of highway rights, the creation and/or modification of public rights of way, as well as the preparation of a range of standard highway agreements, licences and notices.

About You

To apply for this post, you must:

  • Be qualified or be training towards a Legal Executive qualification or equivalent, or have a relevant third qualification.
  • Ability to understand and apply statutory provisions and procedures as well as the ability to communicate effectively with customers and stakeholders.
  • Good drafting, planning, and organisation skills, and able to prioritise work effectively.
  • Able to make decisions on where and to whom to refer legal matters.
  • Must be computer literate with recent experience of MS Word, Excel, Outlook and computerised case management systems.
  • With an organised and methodical attention to detail.
  • Must be professional, approachable, co-operative, courteous and diplomatic.
  • You must also have an understanding of, and commitment to, equality, diversity and inclusion.
