A permanent position at Leicestershire County Council, County Hall, Glenfield, Leicestershire LE3 8RA, working 37 hours per week. Salary ranges from £35,451 to £39,165 per annum (pro rata for part time).

Key Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with schools, families and partner agencies to ensure every child of compulsory school age receives an education that meets their needs, abilities and aspirations.
  • Lead targeted support meetings (in person and virtually) to identify barriers to attendance and agree tailored interventions for pupils who are persistently or severely absent, or at risk of becoming so.
  • Analyse complex information and make informed, proportionate decisions about next steps, including possible legal intervention where necessary.
  • Contribute to the legal intervention process: initiate proceedings, prepare cases, draft witness statements and present evidence in magistrates’ court on behalf of the Local Authority.
  • Use data and professional judgment to drive improvement while maintaining strong partnership working and delivering meaningful outcomes.

Qualifications and Experience

  • NVQ Level 4 or B‑TEC in Business and Administration, A Levels/GCSE (Maths and English) OR proof of substantial, fully evidenced experience equivalent to the required qualifications.
  • Strong understanding of school attendance frameworks, including the Education Act 1996, Leicestershire County Council Code of Conduct and Protocol, and current DfE guidance (Working Together to Improve School Attendance).
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse complex information and make proportionate decisions regarding children and families, including legal intervention when appropriate.
  • Experience of multi‑agency working with schools, family help or social care services.
  • Knowledge and/or experience of working within a legal framework, including advising on attendance‑related legislation.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with families facing challenges using a supportive yet assertive approach.
  • Excellent communication skills with confidence to influence, negotiate and present information across a wide range of settings, including court, together with strong data skills to interpret attendance data and translate it into strategic action.
