About The Role

Leicestershire County Council's Childcare Section seeks a Paralegal to provide one‑to‑one legal support to experienced childcare lawyers. The role involves a wide range of case management and public law outline related work, supported by a mentorship and supervisory structure designed to facilitate progression to full legal qualification.

Candidate Profile

  • Experience as a Family/Childcare Law paralegal.
  • Law Graduate or recent LPC/BPTC/BPTC equivalent completion.
  • Willingness to gain experience while working towards the SQE.
  • Recent CILEX Graduate seeking experience ahead of Fellowship application.
  • Interest in pursuing a career in Family/Childcare Law.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Recent Law degree with a family law option or equivalent legal qualification.
  • Recent experience in a legal environment such as a solicitors' firm, in‑house legal department, law centre or citizens advice bureau, including drafting legal documentation.
  • Knowledge of the Children Act 1989.
  • Strong drafting skills for standard and non‑standard legal documents, with clear, concise written and oral communication.
  • Planning, organisation and prioritisation skills; ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Self‑motivation and initiative; approachable, cooperative, tactful, and diplomatic in confidential situations.
  • Computer literacy with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and case‑management systems; valid driving licence and vehicle access.
