Leicestershire County Council is seeking a highly organised and motivated individual to join the Special Educational Needs Assessment (SENA) Service as a SENA Assistant. This is a key role providing high‑quality administrative and operational support to ensure the effective delivery of services to children and families. The role requires a proactive approach, strong organisational skills and the ability to work confidently with sensitive information in a fast‑paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the coordination and administration of SENA processes, including referrals and casework activity
  • Maintaining accurate and timely records across information systems
  • Liaising with families, schools and professionals to gather and share information
  • Providing high‑quality customer service through telephone, email and face‑to‑face contact
  • Supporting data quality and reporting requirements
  • Assisting with meeting coordination, correspondence and documentation
  • Managing and coordinating a busy workload, prioritising tasks, meeting deadlines and working under pressure using own initiative
  • Delivering excellent customer care and working effectively as part of a team, liaising with internal staff, external agencies and the public

Qualifications

  • Recognised academic qualifications such as GCSEs or equivalent, including NVQ Level 2 in literacy and numeracy, and NVQ Level 2 in Business Administration (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience in a clerical or administrative role, ideally within a public sector setting
  • Demonstrable experience of using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other software systems, including maintaining and developing electronic and manual record systems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of producing high‑quality materials for a variety of audiences
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information in line with service requirements
