Leicestershire County Council is looking to appoint a Finance Support Assistant post within Finance Operations (Corporate Resources Department), supporting Adult Social Care (ASC), Disabled Children’s Services, and Health. This is a permanent post for up to 37 hours per week.
The role involves monitoring the collection and payments of Missing Contributions for individuals, identifying surplus balances in Direct Payment accounts, and recovering those balances promptly. It also provides support to the wider Direct Payments team in a fast‑paced, modern finance environment that manages £56m of social care income and £160m of expenditure annually with 500 providers.
ResponsibilitiesThe Finance Support Assistant will work within the Direct Payments team, dealing with approximately 4,000 Direct Payment cardholders and ensuring accurate recovery of surplus balances. The role requires a flexible, adaptable approach to a wide range of tasks and a client‑driven mindset to deliver quality service.
Qualifications- Experience with computerised financial systems and good knowledge of MS Word and Excel, with attention to detail and an understanding of financial controls and processes
- Effective communication skills in writing, face‑to‑face and telephone, and an understanding of confidentiality
- Ability to plan work efficiently and use effective time‑management skills
- Commitment to quality customer service
- Ability to work in a very busy environment under pressure, prioritising work to meet tight deadlines
- Adaptability to change and new processes as the service expands
- NVQ Level 2 qualification in a relevant area (e.g., Finance or Business Administration) or equivalent
