About the Role

Leicestershire County Council is seeking to appoint a Finance Support Assistant to join our Managed Payments Team. In this role, you will play a key part in ensuring the timely and accurate payment of providers delivering essential care services, including Residential Care, Shared Lives, Home Care, Day Services and Supported Living. You will help ensure payments are processed efficiently and in line with agreed schedules, supporting both our providers and the individuals who rely on these services.

We are looking for applicants who enjoy being part of a vibrant team and thrive in a fast‑paced financial environment serving the citizens of Leicestershire and supporting internal teams. You should be customer‑focused, have a solid understanding of financial fundamentals, and be motivated to deliver change and succeed within a performance‑driven culture.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience and insight into Local Government Finance as part of Corporate Resources, working closely with key stakeholders and partners at all levels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process payments accurately and on time.
  • Manage weekly and monthly payment runs.
  • Reconcile payments and resolve discrepancies promptly.
  • Analyse weekly reports to identify pending payments and take corrective action.
  • Investigate and analyse negative payments.
  • Liaise with providers and internal teams regarding payment queries.

About You

  • NVQ Level 2 qualification in a relevant area (e.g., Finance or Business Administration) or an equivalent qualification.
  • Experience working with computerised financial systems and good knowledge of MS Word and Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail and understanding of financial control within processes.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Commitment to delivering quality customer service.
  • Effective communication skills (written, face‑to‑face and telephone).
  • Ability to adapt quickly to change and new processes as the service expands.
