We’re looking for a creative and driven Communications Officer to join our corporate communications team and help deliver impactful campaigns that support the council’s priorities. This is an exciting opportunity to plan, deliver and evaluate communications that protect and enhance our reputation, influence behaviour and support income generation across a wide range of services.
About The Role
Working as part of a busy, multi‑disciplinary communications unit, you’ll create high‑quality content for a variety of channels – from media and digital to internal communications and face‑to‑face engagement. You’ll use social and commercial marketing techniques to reach audiences effectively, while working within our brand guidelines and legal controls on local government publicity. You’ll be confident working in partnership with colleagues across the organisation, as well as with external partners including health, police, districts and voluntary sector organisations. You’ll also have a strong grasp of evaluation, using research and insight to shape activity and demonstrate how your work contributes to council objectives.
We’re looking for someone who is positive, flexible and audience‑focused, with excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to manage competing priorities. You’ll be comfortable spotting reputational risks, advising stakeholders, and representing the council professionally. The role is based at County Hall, and may occasionally require working outside normal office hours.
About You
- Proven experience of planning, delivering and evaluating communications or marketing activity, with clear objectives and measurable outcomes.
- Educated to level 4 or relevant experience.
- Strong content creation skills, with the ability to produce high quality, audience focused content for a range of channels including media, digital, social and internal communications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with sound editorial judgement and the ability to present complex or sensitive messages clearly and confidently.
- Ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues, partners and stakeholders, and to influence others to achieve communications objectives.
- Organised and adaptable, with the ability to manage competing priorities under pressure, identify reputational risks and work flexibly in a fast paced environment.
In addition, we also expect you to share our commitment to our values and to delivering accessible and inclusive services which meet the needs of all of our residents. You will be asked to demonstrate your understanding of these commitments as part of the selection process. Reasonable adjustments will be considered for applicants with a disability. We are a Disability Confident Employer.
Flexible Working
We are open to discussions about flexible working, which may include part time working, job sharing, term-time working, flexible start and finish times, and hybrid working, depending on the requirements of the role and the service.
