About the Role

ESPO is responsible for the supply of goods and services to the Consortium Members of Cambridgeshire, Leicestershire, Leicester City, Lincolnshire, Peterborough City, Warwickshire, Norfolk and other public bodies within the area and nearby. As a means of providing part of the service ESPO maintains a 120,000 sq ft warehouse at Grove Park for the storage and distribution of a wide range (approximately 10,000 different items) of educational, stationery, cleaning materials and other goods to schools, offices, homes and other establishments and distributes goods to a planned schedule using a fleet of its own and contractors' vehicles.

This role is a Safety Critical Post and, consequently, subject to random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with our policies and procedures. If successful in being appointed to the role, you will be required to agree to a planned test and achieve a negative result as part of any conditional offer of employment and/or during your probationary period.

Main Duties

  • Supervise the working of a small team (4-8) warehouse staff. Train, monitor, advise and instruct staff as appropriate, to ensure that work is completed to the current requirements and KPIs.
  • Create and review each periodic replenishment report (bins and aisles), as required to meet the regularly updated daily output plan.
  • Determine appropriate staff and forklift truck resource required, and assign work to staff/drivers.
  • Monitor outstanding movements with replenishment and FLT staff to ensure efficient completion at the required levels of performance and against current short term objectives and plan.
  • Liaise with Loaders and other Supervisors concerning items needing finishing.
  • Receive, prioritise and assign urgent (black list) requirements.

Health and Safety

Due to the nature of the work within the warehouse, a considerable amount of bending and lifting is required, and in particular for this job where parcels of up to 25kgs are frequently handled. In addition, all employees shall operate with a duty of care and consideration for themselves, other employees and all other users of the warehouse in which both forklift and other powered trucks are operating. Personal protective equipment, in the form of approved Safety Footwear, and High Visibility jackets/waistcoats must be worn at all times whilst working in the warehouse and service yard.

About You

To apply for this post, you must:

  • Have/ be able to obtain current certificate of competence for electric stacker truck.
  • NVQ 2 or equivalent.
  • Experience of the picking and packing, and despatch process in a large manual picking and distribution warehouse (picking in excess of 10,000 order lines per day from around 10,000 different products onto 40 delivery loads). Be able to demonstrate practical knowledge of appropriate storage and picking processes and awareness of units of stock.
  • Numerate, for accurate reading/writing of numbers, and ability to carry out addition/subtraction efficiently and correctly.
  • Literate, to read paperwork, endorse as appropriate; and write effective labels, etc.
  • Competent keyboard skills, for use of WMS computer system, and general use of Microsoft Office. Competent user (including creating and amending) of Excel spreadsheets.
  • Able to motivate staff, as first line supervisor, to achieve output and KPI results and have general knowledge of large distribution warehouse systems and procedures.
