This post is a ST3+ level Trust Grade Registrar within Plastic Surgery. The position is offered on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract to cover maternity leave. The role encourages safe, timely discharge of patients and supports junior members of the medical team. You will work closely with the on‑call and other key members of the team to facilitate safe, high‑standard care. The post is part of the Registrar on‑call rota (1:7), covering adult and paediatric inpatient and outpatient treatment across the spectrum of Plastic Surgery disorders. It includes a non‑resident on‑call commitment (weekends and bank holidays).
Main duties of the job:
- Provide support in emergency admissions and day attenders during office hours.
- Act as a point of escalation for junior doctors needing senior advice.
- Provide Plastic Surgery services at University Hospitals of Leicester via outpatient clinics and procedure lists.
- Work flexibly and cooperatively with colleagues to maximise utilisation of outpatient procedure lists and clinics.
- Maintain good standards of practice and care as described in GMC Guidance ‘Duties of a Doctor’ and report bad practice.
Job responsibilities:
- Maintain key working relationships with:
- Consultants in Breast Surgery & Plastic Surgery
- Registrar colleagues and on‑call team
- Ward MDT including Nursing, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists
- Nurse Practitioners and nursing colleagues within Burns & Plastics
- Dressing Clinic and dedicated wards
- Medical Staff Administrators
- Other CMGs including Emergency Medicine and Paediatrics
- Other responsibilities include:
- Cover for colleagues’ annual leave and authorised absences where job plans allow.
- Participate in service development and business planning with Consultants, CMG and local GPs/commissioners.
- Provide professional supervision and management of junior medical staff, ensuring observance of local employment and human resource policies.
- Participate in medical audit, the Trust’s clinical governance processes and CPD.
- Respond promptly to legitimate requests from Trust officers (investigations of incidents or complaints).
- Participate in professional continuing medical education; study leave is provided.
Person Specification:
- Training & Qualifications: Full GMC registration with a license to practice. MBBS / MRCS.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years’ experience working as core level within a Plastic Surgery setting.
- Skills: Physically able to participate in a full on‑call rota. Able to influence and manage expectations of others. Ability to manage own time and work effectively.
