Applications are invited for the above post to join our Maxillofacial team. The successful candidate will join the existing team of 8 Consultants (4 head and neck consultants). University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust is a teaching hospital network consisting of three hospitals and serves a diverse population of nearly one million people.
Job responsibilities:
- Participate in microvascular on-call rotas at LRI.
- Oncology and reconstruction.
- Supervise and train junior medical staff/dental staff.
- Clinical sessions as laid out in the job plan.
- Teaching, research, audit and administration.
- Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of patients.
- Shared responsibility for day-to-day management of patients.
- Promote new ways of working and coordinating care for patients in the community and ensure services are based on effective and integrated partnerships across the health community.
- Take part in multidisciplinary case conferences.
- Appraise and assess juniors.
- Proactively develop the service.
- Participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
- Responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness, and the proper functioning of the department.
- Cover for colleagues' annual leave and other authorised absences.
- Participate in service development and business planning in collaboration with the other Consultants in the department, the CMG and local GPs and commissioners within the local CCGs.
- Professional supervision and management of junior medical staff including the observance of local employment and human resource policies and procedures.
- Responsibilities for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contributing to undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education activity, locally and nationally.
- Participating in medical audit, the Trust's Clinical Governance processes and in CPD; attendance at audit and other governance meetings is mandatory.
- Managerial, including budgetary responsibilities where appropriate and compliance with standing orders and standing financial instructions of the Trust.
- In line with GMC Good Medical Practice, ensure that all duties are carried out to the highest possible standard, in accordance with current quality initiatives.
- Respond in a timely fashion to legitimate requests from Trust officers, including investigations of incidents or complaints.
- Participate in teaching and training of junior staff and other clinical staff groups; supervise junior medical staff within the specialty and advise junior doctors regarding their careers.
- Participate in professional continuing medical education; study leave is provided.
- Undertake the Trust Corporate and Directorate specific Induction and competency programmes appropriate to role.
- Maintain continuing professional development (CPD) to revalidate; annual appraisal and mandatory training attendance required.

Qualifications / Training:
- Full registration with the GDC and GMC.
- MB BS or Equivalent.
- Current ATLS certificates.
- MRCP/MRCS or equivalent.
- MFDS or equivalent in Surgical Speciality Fellowship.
- Published research in a relevant field.
Research:
- Ability to appraise research critically.
- Ability to supervise juniors undertaking research projects.
- Evidence of recent research and development activity.
- Publications in nationally and internationally recognised peer-reviewed journals on subjects relevant to the specialty.

Experience / Clinical Skills:
- Fully trained in the field of Maxillofacial Surgery.
- Trained in Head & Neck Surgery.

Management:
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and supervise juniors.
- Experience of leading teams and awareness of leadership styles.
