This is a whole‑time post as Sub‑specialty trainee in Gynaecological Oncology with sessions split between University Hospitals of Leicester and Northampton General. The applicant must be enthusiastic and committed and will undertake a 2‑ or 3‑year fixed training programme leading to a subspecialist accreditation in Gynaecological Oncology. The programme delivers high‑quality tertiary Gynaecology Oncology Services to a 2‑million population in Northamptonshire, Leicestershire and North Buckinghamshire, supporting Cancer Units at Kettering and Milton Keynes. The trainee will contribute to the treatment of gynaecological cancer.

Main duties of the job

  • 2‑3‑year fixed training programme covering all aspects of Gynaecological Oncology.
  • Weekly clinical duties across both sites, including outpatient clinics, theatre work and multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Academic teaching and research activities, including undergraduate/postgraduate teaching, ethics and legal aspects, and project work.
  • Management responsibilities encompassing record keeping, administrative tasks and development of future clinical services.
  • Regular assessment and portfolio submission to meet the RCOG subspecialty training syllabus.

  • Knowledge: Understanding of medical and surgical emergency care and standard treatments. Proficiency in a range of medical procedures and manual dexterity. Evidence of competence in emergency and inpatient management. Current ALS certification or equivalent. Experience in audit, research principles and evidence‑based practice. Knowledge of Gynaecological Oncology guidelines and service provision.
  • Clinical Experience: Completion of Part II MRCOG and at least 5 years of specialist O&G training. Evidence of research experience, first‑author publications or a higher research degree. Relevant experience in Gynaecological Oncology, ultrasound and colposcopy skills.
  • Health and Fitness to Practice: Meets GMC professional health requirements and is fit to practice safely.
  • Language Skills: Demonstrable written and spoken English sufficient for effective medical communication. Proof through undergraduate training in English or IELTS scores of overall ≥7, speaking ≥7, reading ≥7, writing ≥7.
  • Eligibility: Full registration with the GMC at the time of appointment, holding a current licence to practice.
