The Pain Management Centre at Leicester General Hospital is expanding its outpatient services and recruiting Band 5 nurses and theatre practitioners to join our elective care team. The Centre supports patients with chronic and complex pain, improving quality of life through specialist assessment, treatment and ongoing care within a patient‑centred environment. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team, working across outpatient clinics and elective services to support patients throughout their treatment journey. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver compassionate care, assist with clinical procedures and ensure a high standard of patient experience. Main Duties of the Job

  • Support patients undergoing a range of pain management procedures in our specialist Pain Management Centre.
  • Rotational working across admissions, discharge areas, theatres and recovery, delivering high‑quality, patient‑centred care within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Assessment, planning and delivery of safe, effective care.
  • Admission and discharge of patients undergoing procedures.
  • Assisting with specialist pain treatments in theatre.
  • Monitoring patients in theatre and recovery.
  • Knowledge of theatre safety, patient preparation and infection prevention.
  • Supporting patients through recovery pathways.
  • Recognising and responding to changes in patient condition.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective decision‑making in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • A flexible and professional approach in an elective care setting.

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of evidence‑based nursing care for a group of patients.
  • Assist in and contribute to the management and organisation of a ward/clinical area.
  • Actively contribute to setting and maintaining high standards of quality nursing care.
  • Actively participate in the education, development and supervision of other staff members.
  • Work collaboratively and cooperatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families.
  • Act as a clinical and professional role model, mentoring, assessing and supporting students and learners on placement within the clinical area.

Person Specification

Training & Qualifications

  • RGN 1st or 2nd Level.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development or reflective profile.
  • Experience in supporting learners in the workplace and supervising their progress and/or assessing their practice.
  • Willingness to undertake new clinical practices, education and training that will enhance service delivery.
  • Completed an NMC‑approved teaching and assessing or practice assessor programme or equivalent.

Experience

  • Demonstrates satisfactory clinical expertise for the grade applied for.
  • Experience will be dependent on the post/ward requirements at the time of recruitment.
  • Some posts may be suitable for newly‑registered staff and some may require previous experience.

  • Ability to communicate well in a variety of settings with patients of all cultures and with differing levels of understanding.
  • Ability to make decisions and prioritise a clinical patient workload.
  • Acts as a mentor and/or assessor and provides support to learners within the ward or unit.
  • Understanding the importance of teamwork and their role within the multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective interpersonal skills and relationships with colleagues across the health setting.
  • Ability to use initiative and to lead and coordinate a multidisciplinary team with minimal supervision.
