Senior Neonatal Homecare Nurse

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Neonatal Homecare Nurse to work within the Neonatal Home Care Service hosted by University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.
Neonatal Community Care is provided across Leicestershire, Rutland and the Northamptonshire region, including University Hospitals of Leicester, Kettering and Northampton Hospitals. This position will be based primarily in Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland.
Responsibilities
- Assist Neonatal Unit and transitional care staff with early and appropriate discharge planning in accordance with outreach care criteria.
- Provide a seamless and timely discharge from hospital to the home environment.
- Carry continuing responsibility for a defined caseload, including assessment of care needs and development, implementation and evaluation of complex care programmes to ensure continuous integrated care.
- Provide specialist ongoing care for the neonate and education, advice and support to the family in the home environment.
- Take a proactive role in education and training of the multidisciplinary team, providing ongoing supervision and support as an expert.
- Work effectively and efficiently as an outreach team member and independently in planning, assessment, implementation and evaluation of neonatal community care.
- Plan, time‑manage and initiate a weekly schedule based on workload requirements to meet the needs of the service and the families.
- Operate confidently and competently within the outreach setting as a lone worker in accordance with trust policy.
- Provide holistic care within the community for vulnerable neonates and their families.
Qualifications and Experience
- Registered Nurse (Level 1) RGN/RSCN.
- Post‑registration qualification in a speciality (ENB405 / QIS).
- Recognised teaching and assessor qualification; willingness to undertake further training related to the post.
- Evidence of continued professional development.
- Advanced Neonatal Life Support certification.
- Community care of the neonate qualification.
- Significant experience in neonatal outreach and specialist neonatal care.
- Knowledge of neonatal outreach service management and current issues in neonatal healthcare, discharge planning and community care.
- Experience in service development and/or change management.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to discuss, advise and negotiate care with medical teams and work independently.
- Good initiative and ability to re‑prioritise tasks.
- Strong planning and organisation skills, able to prioritise own and others’ workload.
