Full Time - 37.5 hours per week – Monday to Friday (plus weekend and Bank Holiday roster).
Part‑Time 30.75 hours per week – Monday to Friday (plus weekend and Bank Holiday roster).
We are looking for Band 5 Occupational Therapists to join our extensive 4‑site rotation. Our rotation has increased in size due to the expansion of our services and inclusion of new clinical areas. You must be an HCPC‑registered occupational therapist or in your final year of study and able to commence in post in August 2026 or earlier. The majority of our rotational posts are of four‑month duration. We recently reduced our rotations to 4 months to enable our staff to regularly rotate, engage in new experiences, and learn and practice new skills – key to supporting staff development.
You will have the opportunity to work on each of the three hospital sites (Leicester General Hospital, Leicester Royal Infirmary, Glenfield Hospital) and Preston Lodge, providing diverse learning opportunities. Working as a Band 5 in UHL, you will rotate across a range of specialties in this large acute teaching Trust, including:
- acute medicine
- emergency floor
- stroke (acute and rehab)
- acute neurology ward
- brain injury unit
- neuro rehab unit
- cardiology
- respiratory
- trauma
- elective orthopaedics
- surgery paediatrics
- hands‑burns and plastics (HBP)
INTERVIEWS WILL BE FACE TO FACE.
Job responsibilities:
- Develop, maintain and promote effective professional working relationships with other disciplines and members of the Occupational Therapy Team.
- Manage a clinical caseload from assessment to discharge/transfer of care within defined protocols, facilitating a timely and safe discharge from hospital.
- Coordinate with Social Services, NHS Community Occupational Therapists and other community agencies regarding provision of equipment, treatment and/or support for patients on discharge.
- Stay aware of medical and therapeutic developments affecting the Occupational Therapist's role.
- Carry out all professional duties in accordance with the code of professional conduct issued by the Royal College of Occupational Therapists.
- Provide functional assessments, treatments and interventions to facilitate safe and effective discharges.
- Demonstrate excellent communication and time‑management skills, working independently and within a team.
- Participate in regular clinical supervision, one‑to‑one meetings, appraisal processes and preceptorship programmes.
- Fulfill all core competencies within the first six months of employment under the training agreement.
Training & Qualifications:
- Diploma, BSc or MSc Occupational Therapy
- HCPC Registration or finalist student anticipating qualification and registration
Experience:
- Experience of working in a team.
- Demonstrates appropriate use of OT interventions relevant to clinical setting, including use of core skills.
- Clinical OT experience in acute hospital setting.
- Demonstrates evidence of computer skills.
Other requirements specific to the role:
- Expresses enthusiasm for the post and desire to work in clinical area.
- Demonstrates awareness of current issues impacting on OT.
- Evidence of continuing personal and professional development.
