University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust invites applications for a part‑time Orthodontic Consultant position. A full‑time option may be considered during the interview process. The role will join a team of two consultant orthodontists, one orthodontic therapist, two restorative consultants and five maxillofacial consultants.
Responsibilities
- Clinical sessions as outlined in the job plan.
- Supervise and train junior medical and dental staff.
- Teach, conduct research, audit and administrative duties.
- Participate in cleft, restorative, orthognathic and oral surgery multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Maintain highest clinical standards for patient management.
- Share day‑to‑day patient management with colleagues.
- Promote new ways of working and coordinate care in the community.
- Proactively develop the service.
- Participate in departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
- Cover colleagues' annual leave and authorised absences.
- Participate in service development and business planning with other consultants, CMG, local GDPs, MCN and commissioners.
- Professional supervision and management of junior medical staff.
- Carry out teaching, examination and accreditation duties.
- Participate in medical audit and Clinical Governance processes.
- Respond to legitimate requests from Trust officers in a timely fashion.
- Participate in professional continuing medical education.
- Attend and complete Trust Corporate and Directorate specific induction and competency programmes.
Qualifications
- Full registration with the United Kingdom General Dental Council (GDC).
- Membership in orthodontics or equivalent.
- Intercollegiate Speciality Fellowship Exit Examination in Orthodontics, or equivalent, before commencing consultant post.
- Successful completion of an SAC approved 2‑year minimum training programme in a Post‑CCST in orthodontics, or within 6 months of completion, or equivalent.
- FDS/MFDS/MJDF or equivalent.
- Published research in a relevant field.
- Experience as a consultant or a post‑CCST within 6 months of completion at the time of interview.
Clinical Skills
- Wide range of experience in orthodontics; special interest in orthognathic treatment and developmental/dentofacial anomalies such as hypodontia.
- Management of cleft lip and palate patients.
- Willingness to organise and conduct audit activities.
- Willingness to develop new approaches to teaching.
Management
- Experience leading teams and familiarity with leadership styles.
- Ability to effectively organise, prioritise and manage clinical workload.
- Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and supervise juniors.
