MIaMI Advanced Clinical Practitioner in Leicester

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACP) to join a friendly and vibrant team at the Minor Illness and Minor Injuries service (MIaMI) Urgent Treatment Centre. We are looking to recruit positive, forward-thinking individuals who are highly motivated, dynamic and can manage complex care in urgent and primary care settings. Our current service started in June 2022 and we are looking to develop and expand the department. The service focuses on providing high-quality care to patients presenting with acute illness and injuries, with a holistic approach to patient care and a track record of improving patient outcomes.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be an experienced health care practitioner who has completed a Masters in Advanced Clinical Practice and holds an independent and supplementary prescribing qualification. They will work as autonomous practitioners who are able to see both adults and children with illnesses and injuries.

The post holder will be an integral member of the MIaMI team, working collaboratively with GPs and allied healthcare professionals undertaking advanced roles and responsibilities traditionally the remit of GPs under the direction of Lead ACP and Clinical GP lead.

The Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) will work within the agreed protocols and guidelines, exercising independent judgement in history taking, examination, assessment, diagnosis and treatment of a diverse and undetermined caseload of acutely unwell patients who have minor to complex acute presentations.

The post holder will have a primary location (MIaMI) but may extend and influence across UHL, including the Emergency Department, Acute & Emergency floor and Same Day Emergency care (SDEC).

Job responsibilities

• To accept clinical responsibility for undertaking the comprehensive assessment of a caseload of patients, including those with a complex presentation, in line with evidence-based practice, legislation, policies and procedures.
• Provide treatment plans for patients that are consistent with the outcome of assessment and the most probable diagnosis using current clinical pathways where required in order to facilitate timely, quality patient care and/or appropriate onward.
• Where appropriate, initiate diagnostic tests, interpret and act upon results and provide advice to members of the multidisciplinary team on patient treatment.
• Practice autonomously; performing advanced practice skills that have been agreed with the senior nursing and medical teams within the specialty.
• Maintain a safe environment for patients, relatives and staff, and adhering to infection prevention policies.
• As a registered non-medical prescriber, independently prescribe medication and fluids within current legislation and Trust policies.
• To accept referrals from and make referrals to consultants, GPs, and other healthcare professionals.
• Improve the quality of the patient experience by identifying and meeting the individual clinical needs of patients.
• Act at all times in the patients' best interests and as a patient advocate.
• Provide specialist advice on patient care to the healthcare team and act as a specialist resource within the service and other areas within the Trust.
• To maintain comprehensive and accurate assessment and treatment records (written and electronic) in line with legal, professional and Trust requirements.

Person Specification

• Registration on relevant part of the register with the NMC or HCPC with no restrictions on practice.
• Master’s degree - MSc Advanced Clinical Practice or Equivalent.
• Recognised Teaching & Assessing Qualification.
• Research module / Qualification.
• Registered Independent non-medical prescribing.
• Able to See Adults and Children.
• Minor Illness and Injury Qualification/Experience.
• Primary care experience.
• Evidence of developing advanced skills in history taking and physical examination skills within speciality area.
• Highly developed communication skills.
• Ability to assess, diagnose and action in pressurised environments.
• Demonstrates expertise in complex decision making.
• Experience managing Adults and Paediatric patients with Illness and Injuries.
