Senior Clinical Fellow (IM3 or ST3+) in the Department of Diabetes & Endocrinology at University Hospitals of Leicester.
Minimum Criteria:
- MRCP Part 1 (Passed)
- UK experience > 1 month
- Special interest in metabolic medicine
Primary base: Leicester Royal Infirmary & Leicester General Hospital, Leicester Diabetes Centre.
Rota: Full time with on‑calls (nights, long days, weekends, etc.). You will be allocated a Clinical Supervisor, Educational Supervisor and supported in your continued professional development. You will receive standard study leave and annual leave entitlement for NHS Doctors per the contractual Terms and Conditions of Service. You will be expected to work at the level of a middle grade registrar. A supernumerary shadowing period of 4 weeks will be offered to overseas candidates, upon negotiation of appointment.
Main duties of the job:
The responsibilities are identical to that of an ST3 in Medicine and will appeal to those who have completed SHO level training and wish to gain specialist Endocrinology and Diabetes experience before joining a specialty programme or taking time out of training. The main duties and responsibilities of this post are to:
- Ensure a safe and high standard of care for all patients
- Participate in the running of the department/ward
- Provide clinical supervision of Junior doctors on medical wards and/or in the on‑call team
- Provide senior medical input for the on‑call Medical Team (especially out of hours) and potentially lead the cardiac arrest team
- Assist with achieving the DOH Clinical Quality Indicators
- Work well in a multidisciplinary team, participate in operational and research projects and teach Senior House Officers, Medical Students, Nursing staff and other ancillary staff
Job responsibilities:
General duties and expectations include compliance with the Health & Safety at Work Act, Data Protection Act, and Trust's equality and diversity policies. General responsibilities may be updated after consultation and may include:
- Undertake general, specialist and sub‑specialist Endocrinology and Diabetes clinics under consultant supervision
- Work with Endocrine and Diabetes Specialist Nurses and ancillary staff to ensure effective running of the Kieffer‑Howlett Investigations Unit and Diabetes In‑Reach services
- Engage with Audit, Quality Improvement and Research in the Departments
- Contribute towards the Thyroid Shared Care Scheme
- Provide endocrine in‑reach for in‑patients at the main UHL sites, mainly at the Leicester Royal Infirmary
- Offer virtual advice and guidance support for General Practice
- Coordinate specialist MDT meetings across Endocrinology and Diabetes
- Teach and train post‑graduate doctors, allied health‑care professionals and students
- Attend weekly educational and multidisciplinary meetings
- Participate in out‑of‑hours General Internal Medical on‑calls covering admissions wards, Emergency Department in‑reach and medical wards at the Leicester Royal Infirmary and Leicester General Hospital on a rotational on‑call basis
- Co‑operate with personnel department regarding hours of work and other personnel issues
- Attend induction in each hospital or new department
